1095A vs 1095B Form Confusion - Medicare Recipients in CA with Dependents
Living in LA with 3 kids under 17, all on Medicare. Really confused about which health insurance form I need - 1095A or 1095B? Anyone know the difference and which one applies to Medicare recipients?

Tax pro here! For Medicare recipients, you'll receive Form 1095B from Medicare. The 1095A is only for people who got their insurance through the Marketplace (Covered California). Since you mentioned you're all on Medicare, you don't need to worry about the 1095A.

Thanks! Do I need to wait for the 1095B to file my taxes?

Nope! You can file without it. The 1095B is just for your records to prove you had coverage.

Hey guys, instead of guessing around about forms, I've been using taxr.ai and it's been a game changer. It analyzes your transcripts and tells you exactly what forms you need and potential issues. Its only $4.99 but worth every penny tbh. Check it out here: https://taxr.ai

Does it actually help with health insurance forms? 🤔

Yes! It looks at your whole tax situation and flags if you're missing any required health insurance docs. Saved me from a huge headache last year

Quick tip: you can create an account on Medicare.gov to access your 1095B electronically if you dont wanna wait for mail

Just an FYI - if your kids are under 17 make sure youre also claiming the Child Tax Credit. Its separate from the health insurance stuff but definitely worth looking into!
