DEO CONNECT missing option to change claim effective date - help needed

I've been trying to modify my claim start date in CONNECT for the past 3 days but can't find the link anywhere in the system. My claim was automatically backdated to when I first created my account (March 15th) but I actually didn't stop working until April 2nd. I don't want to commit fraud by claiming weeks I was still employed! I've looked under 'View and Maintain Account Information' and 'Modify Claim' but there's nothing about changing the effective date. The DEO site mentions being able to modify this but doesn't say WHERE to click. Am I missing something obvious? Has anyone successfully changed their claim start date recently?

You actually can't change it yourself through CONNECT. You have to call DEO directly and speak with an agent who can modify your claim start date. They'll need to submit a request to their technical team to update it in the system. Make sure to explain that you were still working until April 2nd so you don't receive benefits for weeks you weren't eligible.

Ugh, seriously? I've been calling for days and can't get through. Always get the 'all agents are busy' message and then it hangs up on me. Is there ANY other way to do this?

same thing happened to me!! so frustrating right?? i ended up just claiming the weeks i was actually unemployed and skipping the ones where i was still working. seemed easier than trying to get someone on the phone lol

That's not the right approach. If you skip weeks, the system might flag your account for inconsistent claiming. You really need to get the start date corrected or you could face issues later with overpayment notices or even fraud investigation. Better to fix it now than deal with bigger problems down the road.

I had this EXACT problem in January! Called 37 times over 3 days and couldn't get through. The DEO phone system is a NIGHTMARE by design. They make it IMPOSSIBLE to reach anyone!!! I finally had to email my state representative and even that took 2 weeks for a response. The whole system is BROKEN and they don't care!!!

That's really discouraging to hear. I don't have 2 weeks to wait - I need to get this fixed before my next claiming period. There has to be a better way to reach someone.

Try using Claimyr to get through to a DEO agent. It costs a bit but it actually works. I was in the same boat last month - needed to change my effective date because I received severance pay for 3 weeks after my last day. Used their service and got connected to a DEO agent in about 20 minutes instead of trying for days on my own. You can see how it works at claimyr.com or check their demo video here: https://youtu.be/UzW_hbUy-ss?si=zORd51jeq1GX5Ldj The agent I spoke with submitted a request to change my claim date and it was updated within 48 hours. Much better than spending weeks trying to get through on your own.

I've never heard of this service before. Has anyone else used it? Seems weird to pay just to talk to DEO but at this point I'm desperate.

Another option is to try calling right when they open at 7:30am. That's how I finally got through after weeks of trying. Set an alarm and start dialing at 7:28am. Sometimes you can get in the queue before it fills up.

Just to clarify some confusion in this thread: changing your claim effective date is different from skipping weeks during the claiming process. Your claim effective date establishes when you're eligible to begin receiving benefits. This date affects everything from your base period (which determines your benefit amount) to your total eligible weeks. If your claim was automatically backdated to March 15 but you worked until April 2, you definitely need to get this corrected to avoid potential overpayment issues. When you speak with a DEO agent, make sure you have: 1. Your last day of work (with documentation if possible) 2. Any severance information if applicable 3. Your claimant ID and PIN ready The agent will need to submit what's called a "monetary reconsideration" to adjust your claim date. This typically takes 48-72 hours to process once submitted.

Thank you for explaining this so clearly! I definitely need to get this fixed then. I'll try the early morning call tomorrow, and if that doesn't work, I might try that Claimyr service. I don't want to end up with an overpayment issue down the road.

When I had to change my effective date last year, I also had to send in proof of my last day worked - like my final pay stub. They might ask for that too, so have it ready when you finally get through to someone.

Just a heads-up that once they change your effective date, you may need to wait for another determination letter before you can claim weeks using the new date. This typically takes 3-5 business days after the change is processed. If you don't receive a new determination letter within a week after speaking with an agent, call back to check on the status of your request.

Got it, thanks! I finally got through this morning at 7:32am (took 14 redials!). The agent submitted the request to change my effective date and said I should see the update within 72 hours. She also noted on my account that I shouldn't claim weeks before April 2nd. Thanks everyone for your help!
