How to open new EDD claim? Tips needed!

Hey everyone, I'm trying to open a new claim with EDD. Has anyone done this recently? Any tips or advice on what I should have ready or what to expect when I talk to an agent? I'm a bit nervous about the whole process.

I found a way to solve EDD claim application challenges, watch this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=odfUqsNPJvw

I just went through this last month. Make sure you have all your employment info ready - dates, employer names, addresses. They'll ask for your last day worked and reason for unemployment. Also, have your ID and social security card handy. Good luck!

Thanks for the info! Did they ask for any specific documents from your previous employer?

Nah, they didnt ask me for anything from my employer. But its good to have your last pay stub just in case. Better safe than sorry, ya know?

When I filed, they wanted my w2 from last year. Might be different for everyone tho 🤷‍♂️

Ugh, good luck getting through to an actual person. I've been trying for weeks and keep getting disconnected. The whole system is a joke 🤡

I feel ya. Took me like 50 calls to finally get someone. Keep trying, you'll get through eventually!

Pro tip: call right when they open. I got through first try doing that.

Hey, I found a way to actually get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video explaining it: https://youtu.be/Ize0EkN4HDI

Sounds too good to be true. Is this legit?

Yeah, it's totally legit. I was skeptical at first too, but it saved me hours of frustration. Worth every penny imo.

$20 just to talk to someone? That's ridiculous. The system is so broken 😤

I get it, but think about how much time and stress it saves. For me, it was worth it to just get it done.

Make sure you're eligible before you apply. I made the mistake of applying when I wasn't and now I'm dealing with an overpayment issue. Its a nightmare 😫

Has anyone heard about the new bill they're trying to pass? Supposedly it'll make the claim process easier. Anyone know more details?

Here's a comprehensive guide for opening a new EDD claim: 1. Gather all necessary documents: - Social Security Number - California Driver's License or ID card - Employment history for the last 18 months (employer names, addresses, dates of employment) - Last day of work and reason for unemployment - Citizenship status and work authorization (if not a U.S. citizen) 2. Choose your application method: - Online: Fastest and recommended (https://www.edd.ca.gov/Unemployment/UI_Online.htm) - Phone: Be prepared for long wait times - Mail: Slowest option, use only if necessary 3. Complete the application honestly and accurately. Double-check all information before submitting. 4. After submitting, you'll receive a confirmation number. Keep this for your records. 5. EDD will mail you several documents. Read them carefully and respond promptly if required. 6. Set up your UI Online account for easy claim management. 7. If approved, certify for benefits every two weeks to receive payments. Remember, the process can take 2-3 weeks. Be patient and check your mail/email regularly for updates. Good luck with your claim!

Great info! Just wanna add - make sure your phone accepts calls from unknown numbers. EDD might call for additional info and they don't leave voicemails.

This should be pinned tbh. So much better than the official EDD guide 😂

Anyone else feel like they need a law degree to understand all the EDD rules and regs? 🤯
