Filed for UI in November, still no payment. How to calculate weekly benefit? EDD help needed!
Hey everyone, I filed for unemployment back in November and I'm trying to figure out my benefit amounts and when I might get paid. Anyone have experience with this? How long did it take for you to get your first payment after filing? Also, does anyone know how to calculate the weekly benefit amount?

I filed around the same time as you, and it took about 3 weeks to get my first payment. As for calculating the weekly benefit, it's usually based on your highest quarter earnings from the past year. There should be a chart on the EDD website that shows you how much you'll get based on those earnings.

Thanks for the info! I'll check out that chart. Did you have to do anything special to get your payments started, or did they just come automatically?

No problem! For me, they came automatically after I certified for the first two weeks. Just make sure you certify on time and answer all the questions accurately. Good luck!

Ugh, the EDD is such a mess rn. I filed in October and I'm still waiting on my first payment. Apparently there's a huge backlog of claims. Have you tried calling them? It's nearly impossible to get through 🤬

Oh no, that sounds awful! I haven't tried calling yet. Is it really that bad?

Yeah, it's a total nightmare. I've been calling every day for weeks and can never get through. It's like playing the lottery, but with worse odds lol

Pro tip: try calling right when they open or about an hour before they close. Sometimes you can get lucky and snag a spot in the queue!

Listen up, I've been through this rodeo before and here's what you need to know: 1. Be patient. The system is overloaded and it might take longer than usual. 2. Double-check all your info. Any small mistake can delay your claim. 3. Certify for benefits every two weeks, even if you haven't received a payment yet. 4. Keep an eye on your EDD account online. Sometimes they need additional info but don't tell you. 5. If you don't hear anything after a month, start trying to contact them. Hang in there, it's a frustrating process but you'll get through it!

Has anyone else noticed that the EDD website is always down for "scheduled maintenance" whenever you actually need to use it? 🙄

Pro tip: Try using the mobile app instead. It seems to work even when the website is down sometimes.

Guys, I found a way to actually get someone on the phone! I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Check out this video for more info: https://youtu.be/Ize0EkN4HDI

Sounds too good to be true. Has anyone else tried this?

I know it sucks to pay, but for me it was worth it to finally get my issue resolved. Time is money, ya know?

Hey OP, have you checked if you qualify for any of the extended benefit programs? Sometimes people don't realize they're eligible for additional weeks.
