EDD phone system keeps asking certification questions I already completed - need alternative number

So frustrated right now! I've been trying to reach an actual EDD representative all morning. I finally got through the initial menu and thought I was going to speak with someone, but instead the system just started asking me certification questions that I ALREADY completed online three days ago! I tried hanging up and calling back twice but got the same result. Does anyone know a different EDD number I should try? And what specific menu options should I select to talk to a real person instead of getting stuck in the certification loop? My claim has been pending for almost 2 weeks and I really need to talk to someone directly.

The main EDD number is practically useless these days. Try 1-855-327-7057 instead, and when the automated system answers, immediately press # then 0. Sometimes that bypasses the certification questions. BUT you have to call right when they open at 8:00 AM or you'll just get the "we're experiencing high call volumes" message and get disconnected.

Thanks for the tip! Will definitely try that number tomorrow morning right at 8. Did you find that specific number somewhere on the EDD website? Just want to make sure it's legit before I call.

the IVR system is programed to do that if theres somthing wrong with ur certification. did u report any earnings or were u out of state when u certified? thats usually why it tries to make u do certification again over phone

I did report some part-time earnings last week (about $240) but I entered all that correctly online. Could that be why? The system never said there was a problem with my certification though...

I ran into this exact same problem last month. The certification system sometimes flags part-time earnings for additional verification, especially if it's your first time reporting earnings during your benefit year. Here's what actually works: call the technical support line at 1-833-978-2511 instead of the regular number. Select option 1 for English, then 1 for claim questions, then 4 for payment information. That usually connects you to a tier 1 rep who can at least look at your account and tell you what's happening. If they can't fix the issue, ask to be transferred to a claim specialist. Also, double-check your UI Online inbox. They might have sent you a message explaining why your certification needs additional review.

Thank you so much! I just checked my UI Online inbox and there's nothing there, so I'll definitely try that number and option sequence tomorrow. Really appreciate the detailed instructions!

I spent THREE WEEKS trying to get through to EDD last month for a similar issue. Their phone system is completely broken and they don't care at all about claimants. I kept getting hung up on or stuck in loops after waiting for hours. The only thing that finally worked was using Claimyr. It's a service that connects you with an EDD rep, usually within an hour instead of spending days trying. Costs money but saved my sanity. Their site is claimyr.com and they have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km

is that even legit? seems sketchy that you have to pay just to talk to edd when its supposed to be free

I was skeptical too but it's legitimate. They don't replace EDD - they just connect you to the actual EDD phone system but with a guaranteed spot in line. I got through to a real EDD rep who fixed my certification issue. After spending days getting nowhere, it was worth it to me.

DONT WASTE UR TIME WITH THE REGULAR NUMBERS!!!! I work in HR and deal with this stuff all the time. The trick is to call 1-855-327-7057, press #, 0, then 0 again. They will try to send you back to the main menu BUT STAY ON THE LINE. After about 2-3 minutes of silence, it will start ringing again and you'll get a tier 2 specialist. The regular phone reps cant help with certification issues anyway!!

Wow, that's a very specific sequence! I'll definitely try this tomorrow. Really hoping I can get this sorted out because rent is coming up fast. Thanks for the insider tip!

I tried this method yesterday and it worked! Got through to someone after only trying twice. The 2-3 minutes of silence part is key - I almost hung up thinking I got disconnected, but then it started ringing again just like you said.

same thing happened to me. i think the system gets confused when u certify online but then call before its processed. just wait another day or two and check ur ui online account. mine updated after 3 days and the payment went thru without ever talking to anyone

Thanks for sharing your experience. I've already waited almost 2 weeks though, which seems too long for normal processing. Did your status show as 'pending' during those 3 days?

yea it was pending for 3 days then suddenly changed to paid. but 2 weeks is definitely too long, u should definitely call

I had a slightly different issue with certifications last month, but what fixed it for me was going through the 'Ask EDD' form on the website rather than calling. Go to 'Contact EDD' > select 'Unemployment Insurance' > then 'Payments' > then 'Where is my payment?' This creates a case that gets assigned to a specialist who will usually call you back within 48-72 hours. It's much less frustrating than getting stuck in phone loops. Just make sure to include your claim number and specify that you've already completed certification online but the system keeps asking you to certify by phone again.

I'll try this as a backup plan if the phone methods don't work. Did they actually call you back when you promised? I've heard mixed things about the Ask EDD response times.

Yes, they called me back on the second day. The key is filling out the form correctly and selecting the right category. If you just choose 'General Questions' they'll take forever, but payment issues get prioritized.
