EDD phone number Sacramento - been calling for 6 days straight can't reach anyone
I'm in Sacramento and have been trying the EDD phone number for almost a week now. I know it's the same statewide number but figured being local might help somehow? Started Monday morning at 8am sharp, called probably 200+ times by now. Keep getting the 'we're too busy' message or it just hangs up on me. My claim got flagged for identity verification and I can't wait anymore - bills are piling up. Has anyone in the Sacramento area had better luck getting through? Maybe there's a local trick I'm missing?

Sacramento resident here too, unfortunately being local doesn't help at all. The EDD phone number is the same whether you're in Sacramento, LA, or anywhere else in California. I've been calling from Midtown for 3 weeks.

•That's what I was afraid of. Thought maybe Sacramento people had some inside knowledge since we're close to the state offices.

•Nope, we're all in the same boat. The phone system doesn't care where you're calling from in California.

200 calls in 6 days is nothing unfortunately. I hit 400+ attempts last month before I finally got on hold. And then the call dropped after 2 hours. The EDD phone system is completely overwhelmed.

•400 attempts?! How do you even keep track of that many calls? This is insane.

•I kept a tally sheet. It was driving me crazy but I had to know how many times I was getting rejected.

•I stopped counting after 100. It was too depressing to keep track.

After going through this nightmare myself, I ended up using Claimyr to call for me. Best $20 I ever spent. Got a callback in 25 minutes with an actual EDD agent on the line. You can check it out at claimyr.com - they have a demo video at https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10 showing how it works.

•Is that legit? I'm so desperate I'll try anything at this point but don't want to get scammed.

•Totally legit. I was skeptical too but they have thousands of reviews on Google. Way better than spending entire days redialing.

•I used them last month too. Worked exactly as advertised - got my callback in about 30 minutes on a Wednesday afternoon.

Are you calling the right number? It's 1-800-300-5616. The menu pattern is: press 1 for English, wait about 70 seconds, then press 1-1-***. Don't press the numbers too early or it won't work.

Javier Morales
•Yeah that's the number I've been using. I tried pressing the menu options early to save time but maybe I'm going too fast?

Omar Farouk
•You have to wait for the first pause after pressing 1 for English. If you rush it, the system rejects your call.

•The timing is crucial. I found waiting exactly 1 minute 10 seconds after pressing 1 works best.

Pro tip from Sacramento: don't bother calling between noon and 1:30pm. The entire call center goes to lunch and literally nobody answers. Found this out the hard way after wasting 3 hours during lunch time.

Javier Morales
•Seriously? The whole call center takes lunch at the same time? That's ridiculous!

Emma Davis
•Yep, complete dead zone from 12-1:30. They should put that on their website but they don't.

•This explains why I never get through when I call during my lunch break. Good to know!

I work downtown Sacramento and tried calling from different locations thinking it might help - Rancho Cordova, Elk Grove, even drove to West Sac. Makes no difference whatsoever. The phone system is the same statewide nightmare.

•Ha! I was actually thinking about driving somewhere else to call. Glad you saved me the gas money.

•Yeah don't waste your time. I burned a tank of gas for nothing.

Wednesday and Thursday afternoons around 2-3pm seem to be the best times. Avoid Monday mornings completely - everyone calls then. Also don't call after 4pm, they stop taking new calls even though they're open until 5.

Javier Morales
•I'll try Wednesday afternoon. I've been calling mostly in the mornings.

Isabella Silva
•Yeah mornings are the worst. Everyone has the same idea to call first thing.

•Friday afternoons are pointless too. Even if you get through, they can't fix complex issues before the weekend.

The 833 number (833-978-2511) and the 800 number are the exact same line, don't let anyone tell you different. I wasted two days thinking the 833 number was better.

•Wait, I've been alternating between both numbers thinking it would double my chances!
0 coins
Freya Andersen
•Nope, they route to the same phone system. Stick with one to avoid confusion.

CosmicCadet
•This is correct. Both numbers have identical wait times and success rates.

Set your alarm for 7:45am and start calling at 7:55am. Have your coffee ready the night before. The first 10 minutes when they open at 8am are your best shot, but you're competing with thousands of other people with the same strategy.

Javier Morales
•I tried this yesterday but still couldn't get through. Maybe I need to call even earlier?
0 coins
CosmicCadet
•You can't call before 8am, the system won't accept calls. But being ready right at 8:00:00 helps.

•Even with perfect timing, it's still a numbers game. That's why I switched to using Claimyr.

Just a heads up - even if you get on hold, there's about a 30-50% chance the call will drop. I've been disconnected after waiting 1.5 hours three different times. It's soul crushing.

Javier Morales
•Oh no, that's my worst fear. All that time wasted and then nothing to show for it.
0 coins
Malik Robinson
•Exactly. That's when I started looking for alternatives because I couldn't keep losing entire days.

•The dropped calls are the worst part. Makes you want to throw your phone across the room.

Update on Claimyr: I've used it twice now and both times got connected in under 40 minutes. The second time was only 15 minutes. Way faster than the 2+ hours of manual calling and holding.

Javier Morales
•Ok you've convinced me. Going to try it today because I can't keep missing work to call all day.

Ravi Choudhury
•Smart choice. The time savings alone is worth it, plus no risk of dropped calls since they handle the hold time.

•I'm going to check it out too. This manual calling is destroying my sanity.

PSA: There is NO specialist line anymore since the pandemic. Don't waste time looking for secret numbers or special extensions. The main unemployment line is the only way to reach a human agent.
0 coins
Javier Morales
•Good to know. I saw some old posts mentioning a specialist line but couldn't find current info.
0 coins
Omar Farouk
•Yeah those posts are from 2019 or earlier. Everything routes through the main number now.

•I wasted a whole day trying to find these mythical specialist numbers. They don't exist anymore.

For what it's worth, I've never had luck calling from Sacramento on Mondays. Seems like everyone in the valley calls first thing Monday morning. Tuesday through Thursday are definitely better odds.
0 coins
Javier Morales
•That makes sense. Monday is when people realize they need to deal with their EDD issues from the weekend.
0 coins
GalaxyGlider
•Exactly. And Friday afternoons are dead too because people give up for the week.

Make sure you have all your documents ready before you call. Social security card, ID, any letters from EDD. When you finally get through, they'll want everything immediately and won't hold while you go find stuff.

Javier Morales
•Great point. I have my identity verification documents but should organize them better.

Isabella Silva
•Take photos of everything with your phone too. Sometimes they want you to read numbers or dates quickly.

•And have your claim number memorized. They ask for it right away.

Another Claimyr success story here - used it last week when I was getting desperate. Got my callback on a Thursday around 3pm, total time was maybe 20 minutes. The agent was able to clear my identity verification issue in one call.
0 coins
Javier Morales
•That's exactly what I need help with! Identity verification has been pending for weeks.
0 coins
Freya Andersen
•Yeah they cleared mine in about 10 minutes once I actually got to talk to someone. The calling part was the hard part.
0 coins
CosmicCadet
•Identity verification seems to be the most common issue right now. At least it's fixable once you reach someone.

Keep track of your calling attempts. Write down times, how long you waited, what messages you got. It helps you identify patterns and also serves as documentation if you need to escalate your case later.

Javier Morales
•I should have been doing this from the start. Now I have no idea exactly how many times I've called.

CosmicCadet
•Start now. Even a simple tally sheet helps. You'll be surprised how many attempts it really takes.

•My log was 3 pages long before I gave up on manual calling. Kept detailed records of everything.

One thing that helped me was using speaker phone and doing other tasks while redialing. Made the repetitive calling slightly less mind-numbing. But honestly, after 400+ attempts I was ready to pay someone else to do it.
0 coins
Javier Morales
•Yeah I've been doing dishes and laundry between calls. At least something productive gets done.
0 coins
Emma Davis
•Exactly. But there's only so much housework you can do before you lose your mind.

•That's when I decided Claimyr was worth every penny. Got my life back instead of being chained to the phone.

Final tip: If you do get through to hold, DO NOT hang up even if the wait seems crazy long. I waited 2 hours and 45 minutes once but finally talked to someone. The hold music is annoying but stick with it.
0 coins
Javier Morales
•Almost 3 hours on hold?! I don't know if I have that kind of patience.

GalaxyGlider
•It was brutal but I was terrified to hang up and start over. Put it on speaker and did other stuff around the house.

Malik Robinson
•I've done the 2+ hour holds too. The fear of starting over keeps you hanging on forever.

Sacramento or not, we're all dealing with the same broken phone system. The location doesn't matter but the timing and persistence do. Good luck to everyone still trying to get through manually.

•Thanks for all the advice everyone. Going to try the Wednesday afternoon strategy and if that fails, I'm definitely checking out Claimyr.

•Smart plan. Having a backup option keeps you from going completely insane with the manual calling.

•Definitely check out Claimyr if the manual approach doesn't work. It's a game changer for getting your life back.
