EDD claim expired, $6,100 balance left. Need help reopening with Tier 2 specialist
Hey everyone, I'm in a bit of a pickle. My unemployment claim expired and I didn't get the last $6,100 I was supposed to receive. I need to talk to a tier 2 specialist to reopen my old claim. Has anyone been through this? Any advice on what to say when I finally get through to someone?

Ugh, dealing with EDD is such a nightmare. I've been there, buddy. Here's what worked for me: 1. Be super polite but firm 2. Have all your claim info ready 3. Explain clearly that your claim expired before you got all your benefits 4. Ask them to review your account thoroughly 5. If they can't help, politely ask to speak to a tier 2 specialist Good luck! Let us know how it goes 🍀

Thanks so much for the detailed advice! I'll definitely use these tips. Quick question - did you have to provide any specific documents when you called?

No prob! I had my claim number, last 4 of SSN, and dates of my last payment ready. If you have any letters from EDD about your claim, keep those handy too. Better to have too much info than not enough!

This is solid advice. I'd add: take notes during the call! Write down the agent's name and ID number. It helps if you need to follow up later.

Have you tried calling right when they open? I heard that's the best time to get through.

Yeah, I've tried that a few times. No luck so far. It's always busy or I get disconnected after waiting for hours. 😩

Pro tip: use a auto-dialer app. It'll keep calling until you get through. Saved me hours of frustration!

I found a method to get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video explaining it: https://youtu.be/Ize0EkN4HDI

Sounds too good to be true. Is this legit? Anyone else tried it?

100% legit. I was skeptical too, but it saved me days of frustration. Worth every penny imo.

Idk man, paying to talk to a government agency feels wrong. Shouldn't this be free?

I get where you're coming from, but think about how much time and stress it saves. Time is money, right? Plus, you're not paying EDD, just a service that helps you reach them.

OP, make sure you're super clear about the $6,100 balance. Sometimes they 'forget' about leftover amounts. Stand your ground!

Good point! I'll definitely emphasize that. Should I ask for a breakdown of how they calculated that amount?

Absolutely! Always get everything in writing. If they can email you a breakdown, even better. CYA all the way!

Hey, former EDD employee here. Quick tip: when you call, immediately ask for a tier 2 specialist. Many tier 1 agents aren't trained to handle expired claims. Save yourself some time and frustration.

Wow, thanks for the insider info! Is there a specific phrase I should use to request a tier 2 specialist?

Just be straightforward: "I'm calling about an expired claim with a remaining balance. I need to speak with a tier 2 specialist please." Be polite but firm. Good luck!
