EDD: Trouble starting new claim near closing time - need advice
Hey everyone, I'm trying to start a new unemployment claim and I'm having some trouble. I called the EDD office but it's close to closing time. They said they'll continue processing my claim tomorrow, but I'm worried about the timing. Has anyone else dealt with this? Any tips on how to make sure my claim gets processed quickly?

Ugh, I feel your pain. The EDD system is such a mess rn. I had to call like 50 times before I got through. Keep trying early in the morning, that's when I finally got someone on the line.

Early morning didn't work for me. I had better luck calling right after lunch. Seems like theres no rhyme or reason to it tho 🤷♂️

I've heard ppl say to call on Wednesdays. Apparently its less busy? Idk if its true but might be worth a shot

Thanks for the tips! I'll try calling at different times and see what works. Fingers crossed 🤞

Pro tip: I found a way to get someone on the phone without the endless waiting. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Sounds too good to be true. Has anyone else tried this?

$20? That's kinda steep. Is it really worth it?

I get the skepticism, but for me it was totally worth it. Saved me hours of frustration and got my claim sorted quickly. Your mileage may vary, but it worked great for me!

I tried it too. Worked like a charm. Beats calling 100 times a day for sure.

Make sure you have all your documents ready when you call. They might ask for your W-2, pay stubs, and stuff like that. Being prepared can speed things up a lot.

Here's what I've learned from my experience with starting a new claim: • Be persistent. If you can't get through, keep trying. • Have all your information ready before you call. This includes your Social Security number, driver's license, employment history for the last 18 months, and any separation paperwork if you were laid off. • Use the online system if possible. It's often faster than calling. • If you must call, try different times of day. Early morning or late afternoon can sometimes be less busy. • Be patient with the representatives. They're dealing with a lot right now. • Keep a record of all your attempts to contact EDD, including dates and times. • Check your spam folder regularly. Sometimes important emails from EDD end up there. • If you're really stuck, consider contacting your local state representative's office. They can sometimes help push things through. Hope this helps! Hang in there, OP.

I tried, but I got stuck on one of the questions. That's why I ended up calling. Maybe I'll give it another shot though.
