EDD Appeal Hearing Delay: Waiting Since August, No Updates. Help!

Hey everyone, I've been waiting on an appeal for my unemployment claim since last August/September. It's been months and I still don't know what's going on with my appeal hearing. Has anyone else experienced such a long wait? I'm getting really frustrated and could use some advice or insight from others who've been through this.

I found a way to solve long unemployment appeal wait times, watch this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XRAcWwm_C54

Wow, that's a crazy long wait! I'm in the same boat, been waiting since October. It's like they forgot about us or something. Have you tried calling them? I know it's a pain, but sometimes you gotta be the squeaky wheel to get the grease.

I've tried calling so many times, but I can never get through. It's always busy or I'm on hold forever. It's so frustrating!

Pro tip: call right when they open. I mean like, set an alarm and everything. Sometimes you can get through if youre one of the first callers of the day.

I found a method to get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/Ize0EkN4HDI

Sounds too good to be true. Has anyone else tried this?

I get the skepticism, but it seriously worked for me. After months of trying, I finally got through. The $20 was worth it to get my issue resolved.

Can you explain more about how it works? Do they garuantee you'll get through?

Sure! Basically, their system calls EDD for you and navigates the phone tree. When a real person picks up, it connects the call to your phone. They don't guarantee you'll get through, but if you don't, you can try again for free.

The whole system is broken. I've been waiting on my appeal for 7 months now. It's ridiculous how they expect us to survive without any income or updates. Something needs to change.

Have you tried reaching out to your local assemblymember or state senator? Sometimes they can help expedite things. It worked for me when I was stuck in limbo for months.

I hadn't thought of that! How do I find out who my representatives are?

Just google '[your city] state representatives' and it should come up. Most have forms on their websites where you can request help with state agencies. Good luck!

Okay, let me break this down for you based on my experience and what I've learned from others in similar situations: 1. Long wait times are unfortunately common right now. The system is backlogged due to the high volume of claims and appeals. 2. While waiting, make sure all your documents are in order. Double-check that you've submitted everything they've asked for. 3. Keep a log of all your attempts to contact them. This can be useful if you need to escalate your case. 4. As others have mentioned, contacting your local representatives can help. They often have liaisons who work directly with EDD. 5. If you haven't already, check your online account regularly for any updates or requests for additional information. 6. Consider using the callback service mentioned earlier if you're really struggling to get through. 7. If your financial situation is dire, look into local resources for assistance while you wait. Many communities have expanded their support programs during this time. 8. Finally, know your rights. There are time limits on how long they can take to process appeals, though these have been extended due to the pandemic. Hang in there, OP. It's a frustrating process, but persistence usually pays off in the end.

Thank you so much for this detailed response! This is really helpful. I'll definitely try contacting my rep and double-checking all my docs.

Has anyone had any luck with the online appeal system? I've heard mixed things about whether it's faster than mailing in the paperwork.

I used the online system and still waited 5 months. So... maybe not faster, but at least you know they received it?

Online all the way. At least you get a confirmation number. With mail, who knows if it even got there.

Unpopular opinion: sometimes these long waits are because they're actually investigating stuff. My friend works for EDD (not in appeals tho) and says a lot of claims need extra verification because of all the fraud that happened.

That may be true, but it doesn't excuse leaving people hanging for months without any updates or communication.

Oh for sure, I'm not defending it. Just sharing some insider info on why it might be taking so long.

Anyone else notice how they always seem to 'lose' documents? I've had to send the same stuff like 3 times now. Make sure you keep copies of EVERYTHING.

Honestly, I think it was just my turn in the queue. But I had been calling every week and leaving messages. Maybe that helped? Either way, don't give up!
