EDD claim filed Oct 23 still processing - normal wait time? Need advice
Hey everyone, I filed for unemployment over a month ago (October 23rd) and it's still showing as 'processing'. Is this normal? I'm getting worried because it's been so long. Has anyone else experienced delays like this? Any advice on what I should do or say when I finally get through to an agent?

Ugh, I feel your pain. I filed around the same time and I'm still waiting too. It's so frustrating! π€ Have you tried calling them? I've heard some people have luck if they keep pestering them.

I've tried calling a few times but always get the busy signal. It's like trying to win the lottery just to talk to someone!

Pro tip: call right when they open. I got through after only 30 minutes on hold that way.

A month is definitely too long. When you do get through, make sure to emphasize how long you've been waiting. Sometimes they can expedite your claim if you explain the financial hardship.

I found a way to actually get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/DOLxZQb92wM

Sounds too good to be true. Is this legit?

Yeah, it's legit. I was skeptical at first too, but it saved me hours of frustration. Worth every penny imo.

Here's what you need to do: 1. Document everything. Keep a log of all your attempts to contact them. 2. Check your online account daily for any updates or requests for additional info. 3. Reach out to your local state representative. They can sometimes intervene on your behalf. 4. Be persistent but polite when you do get through. The person on the other end is probably overwhelmed too. 5. Have all your documents ready when you call. They might ask for additional verification. 6. If possible, file an appeal for the delay. Sometimes this can trigger a review of your case. Remember, the system is super backed up right now. It sucks, but hang in there!

Wow, thank you so much for this detailed advice! I'll definitely start keeping a log. Do you know how I can find my local state rep's contact info?

Sure thing! Just google '[Your State] find my representative'. Most states have a website where you can enter your address and it'll show you who represents you. Good luck!

This is why we need to overhaul the entire unemployment system. It's a joke that people have to wait this long for help when they're already struggling. π‘

Preach! π The whole thing is held together with duct tape and prayers at this point.

Yeah but good luck getting politicians to care about fixing it. They only pay attention when it affects them directly.
