EDD Unemployment Claim Not Showing After a Month - What to Do?
I'm so frustrated with my unemployment claim. It's been almost a month since I filed and turned in all the paperwork, but when I check online, it still doesn't show that I have a claim on file. I haven't received any money either. Has anyone else experienced this? What should I do? I'm getting worried because bills are piling up and I need this money soon.

Guys, I know it's frustrating, but remember the people working there are probably overwhelmed too. Let's try to be patient and kind when we do get through to someone.

Nah, just someone who's been on both sides of customer service. A little kindness goes a long way!

This happened to me too! turns out they had my SSN wrong by one digit. Took forever to fix. Double check all your info is correct

Wow, that's such an easy mistake to make. How long did it take to correct it once you identified the issue?

PSA: Don't forget to check if you qualify for other assistance programs while you wait! Food banks, rental assistance, etc. Every little bit helps!

I used Claimyr once, and it helped speed up the process significantly. But it's not the only option out there. You could also try contacting local advocacy groups that might offer free or low-cost assistance. While Claimyr provides a convenient service, it's important to weigh the costs, especially if money is already tight. Persistence is key, and sometimes combining different approaches works best.

That's a good point. Getting assistance from different sources is probably the best strategy.

Pro tip: if you call right when they open, you have a better chance of getting through. Set your alarm early!

Hot take: maybe if we all show up at the unemployment office with pitchforks, they'll process our claims faster 😈

Careful, they might "accidentally" lose all our paperwork if we do that 😂

Unpopular opinion: the system is working exactly as intended. They make it so difficult hoping people will just give up.

Nah, never attribute to malice what can be explained by incompetence. They're just really, really bad at their jobs.

Update: Finally got through on the phone! Turns out there was a "processing error" on their end. They said it should be fixed in 5-7 business days. Fingers crossed 🤞

"5-7 business days" in EDD speak means anywhere from 2 weeks to never 😅 Good luck tho!

Here's what you need to do (I work in HR and deal with this stuff all the time): 1. Document everything. Keep a log of when you filed, what paperwork you submitted, and any communication attempts. 2. Call the unemployment office ASAP. Be prepared to wait on hold for hours. Have all your info ready. 3. If calling doesn't work, try reaching out via their online portal or email system. Some states are more responsive this way. 4. As someone else mentioned, contacting your local representative can help. They often have direct lines to unemployment offices. 5. Check if there are any local legal aid organizations that can assist with unemployment issues. They often offer free help. 6. Make sure you're continuing to certify for benefits each week, even if you haven't seen any money yet. 7. If all else fails, consider filing an appeal. This can sometimes kickstart the process. Remember, the system is overwhelmed right now, but persistence is key. Don't give up!

Quick question - for point 6, what if the system won't let me certify because it says I don't have an active claim?

Good question! If that's happening, definitely mention it when you call. It could be a glitch in their system. Keep trying to certify anyway, and document each attempt.

Have you checked your spam folder? Sometimes important emails end up there. Also, make sure the address they have on file is correct.

I found a way to actually get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video explaining it: https://youtu.be/DOLxZQb92wM

$20 just to talk to someone? That's ridiculous, we shouldn't have to pay for basic service 🙄
