EDD Paid Family Leave: 30+ min hold time - ok to hang up? Need status check advice
Hey everyone, I'm trying to check on the status of my paid family leave claim with EDD. I've been on hold for over 30 minutes now. Is it okay to hang up at this point? I'm really looking forward to talking with them today, but this wait is killing me. Any advice?

Ugh, been there done that. EDD's hold times are ridiculous! I once waited for 2 hours before I got through. My advice? Don't hang up if you can help it. Put it on speaker and do something else while you wait. It sucks, but sometimes that's the only way to get answers.

2 hours? You got lucky! I was on hold for 4 hours last week 😭

Jeez, 4 hours? That's insane! @profile 3 I feel ya, but sometimes you gotta play the game to get what you need 🤷♀️

Pro tip: call right when they open. I've had better luck getting through quickly that way. Also, Tuesdays and Wednesdays seem to be less busy in my experience.

This! 👆 Early morning calls are the way to go. I always try to be one of the first callers of the day.

I found a method to get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video explaining it: https://youtu.be/DOLxZQb92wM

Sounds too good to be true. Has anyone else tried this?

$20? That's steep for something that should be free. The system is so messed up 😤

I get the skepticism, but it seriously saved me hours of frustration. Worth every penny imho. @profile 8 I agree it sucks we have to pay, but my time is worth more than sitting on hold all day.

Here's what I've learned after dealing with EDD for months: 1. Persistence is key. Don't give up after one try. 2. Keep detailed records of all your calls and interactions. 3. If possible, use their online portal for updates. Sometimes it's faster. 4. If you do call, have all your info ready (claim number, SSN, etc.) 5. Be polite to the reps. They're overwhelmed too. 6. Consider reaching out to your local assembly member's office. They can sometimes expedite things. Hang in there, OP. The system is frustrating, but you'll get through eventually!

Quick question for those who've been through this: How long did it take for your paid family leave to actually start after approval? I'm in the same boat as OP and trying to plan ahead.

For me, it took about 2 weeks after approval. But I've heard it can vary. Best to ask EDD directly when you get through!

LPT: While on hold, document EVERYTHING. Time you called, who you spoke to, what they said. It'll save you headaches later if theres any discrepancies.

Anyone else feel like they need a degree in bureaucracy just to navigate the EDD system? 🎓🤡 I swear, half the battle is learning their lingo and processes.
