EDD PFL final payment timing - will I get another deposit after claim end date?

I just received a payment from EDD for my baby bonding leave on Monday, but my claim officially ends on 11/05. Does anyone know if I'll get one more payment? The EDD website is super confusing about final payments. I'm trying to budget for the next month and really need to know if another deposit is coming or if this was my last one. My hubby thinks it's the final payment, but I thought I get paid through the end date?

Yeah I've certified for everything up to 10/22. I guess I'm wondering if they'll send a form for the last two weeks (10/23-11/05) or if that's it?

The payment you just received likely covers the period up to 10/22. You should receive one more payment for the period from 10/23 to your claim end date (11/05), but only after you certify for those final weeks. The certification form for this last period should become available in your UI Online account a day or two after 10/22 ends. Complete it promptly to receive your final payment. Make sure you've accounted for any partial weeks in your calculations. EDD pays for complete 7-day periods, so if your claim ends mid-week, you'll only be paid for the days up to 11/05.

This exact thing happened to me with my PFL claim last year. The website is TERRIBLE at explaining the final payment process! If your claim end date is 11/05, you absolutely should get one more payment for the last certification period. HOWEVER - and this is what trips people up - you need to make sure you actually get that final certification form. Sometimes it doesn't show up automatically in the online system. I had to call them because my final certification never appeared in my account. Spent THREE DAYS trying to get through on the phone!!!!

If you're having trouble reaching an EDD representative about your final PFL certification, you might want to try Claimyr. It helped me get through to a live agent on my first try when I had issues with my final baby bonding payment. You can see how it works at https://youtu.be/DOLxZQb92wM?si=6N1iCQ3a8Cdb2Ay5 or visit claimyr.com. Saved me from spending days trying to get through the busy signal loop!

If you've already certified for the period ending 10/22, then yes, you should receive one more payment for the remaining two weeks (10/23-11/05). Here's what often happens with EDD PFL final payments: 1. They'll make the final certification form available after 10/22 2. You'll need to certify for that remaining period 3. Payment should process within 1-2 business days after certification Just keep checking your UI Online account for the final certification form. It should appear automatically, but sometimes there are system delays.

Thank you so much! That's exactly what I needed to know. I'll keep checking for that final certification form. Guess I need to be patient but at least now I know what to expect with the timing.

My PFL claim had the same end date as yours last month and I did get one final payment, but it was prorated bc i went back to work on the 3rd. Just remember that u need to report if ur returning to work before the claim end date, or u could end up with an overpayment notice later.

That's a good point! I'm actually returning to work on 11/03, so two days before my claim ends. I'll make sure to indicate that on my final certification. Did you have any issues with the system calculating those partial days correctly?

when i had baby bonding last year i got super confused about this too! the lady on the phone told me you get paid UP TO the end date, not necessarily ON the end date. so if your last certification period includes your end date, thats ur final payment. does that help?

omg i didnt even think of that! so u have to look at the certification PERIODS not just the end date. that actually explains why i thought i was missing a payment on my claim last summer lol

I went through this exact situation with my PFL claim earlier this year! You should definitely get one more payment for those final two weeks (10/23-11/05). The key thing is to watch your UI Online account closely after 10/22 ends - that's when the final certification form should appear. In my case, it took about 3 days after the period ended for the form to show up in my account. Once I certified, the payment came through in about 2 business days. Since you're going back to work on 11/03, just make sure to report that accurately on your final certification so you only get paid for the days you're actually eligible. The EDD website really is confusing about this stuff - you're not alone in being unsure about the timing!

This is really helpful, thank you! I was getting so stressed about whether I'd have enough money to cover my bills next month. It's reassuring to hear from someone who went through the exact same timeline. I'll definitely keep checking my UI Online account after the 22nd and make sure to be accurate about my return to work date. Really appreciate you taking the time to share your experience!

Just went through this with my PFL claim that ended in September! You'll definitely get another payment for those last two weeks. The final certification form usually shows up in your UI Online account 2-3 days after your current certification period ends (so around 10/25 in your case). One tip - set a reminder to check your account daily after the 22nd because sometimes the form appears earlier than expected. And since you're going back to work on 11/03, you'll get paid for 10/23-11/02, so it'll be prorated for those 11 days. The system handles partial weeks pretty well as long as you report your return-to-work date correctly on the certification. Don't stress too much about the budgeting - that final payment should come through within a week of certifying!

This is so helpful! I'm actually in a similar situation with my PFL claim ending soon and was worried about the same thing. It's really reassuring to hear that the system handles partial weeks well - I was scared they might mess up the calculation. Thanks for the tip about setting a daily reminder to check for the certification form. I'll definitely do that rather than waiting and potentially missing it!

I'm currently on PFL and my claim ends next week, so this thread is super timely for me! From what I've gathered from calling EDD (after being on hold for 2 hours 😫), they confirmed that you get paid through your actual end date as long as you certify for that final period. The rep told me the final certification becomes available usually within 24-48 hours after your current certification period ends. Since your current certification probably covers up to 10/22, you should definitely get that final form around 10/23-10/24 for the remaining period through 11/05. Just keep refreshing your UI Online account! And yeah, make sure to accurately report your return to work date on 11/03 - they're pretty good about prorating those partial periods. Hope this helps ease your budgeting stress! The waiting game with EDD is always nerve-wracking.

Thank you for calling EDD and sharing what you learned! That 24-48 hour timeframe for the final certification form is really helpful to know. I was wondering if I'd be waiting weeks for it to show up. It's frustrating how unclear their website is about these final payment timelines - seems like everyone has to learn this stuff the hard way by calling or asking here. Good luck with your claim ending next week! At least now we both know what to expect with the process.

I went through this exact same situation with my PFL claim that ended in August! You will definitely get one more payment for those final two weeks (10/23-11/05). The key is watching your UI Online account starting around 10/23 for the final certification form to appear - it usually takes 1-3 days after your current period ends. Since you're returning to work on 11/03, make sure you report that date accurately on your final certification so you only get paid for the eligible days. The system is pretty good at calculating partial weeks as long as you're honest about your return date. One thing that helped me was taking screenshots of my certification just in case there were any issues later. The final payment processed within 2 business days after I certified. Don't worry about budgeting - that payment is definitely coming!
