EDD Disability: Filed weeks ago, no response. When will payments start? Help!

I filed for disability benefits a few weeks ago and haven't heard anything back from EDD. I'm getting worried because I need the money soon. Does anyone know how long it usually takes to get a response or start receiving payments? Also, is there anything else I should be doing while I wait to hear back?

I found a way to solve EDD disability claim delays, watch this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KNWIe2tsanI

Ugh, I feel ya. The waiting game with EDD is the worst. I filed for disability about 2 months ago and it took them like 6 weeks to even acknowledge my claim. Hang in there!

6 weeks?! That's insane. I thought it was supposed to be faster than that. Did you end up getting backpay for all that time?

Yeah, I did get backpay thankfully. But it was super stressful waiting that long without knowing what was going on. The system is so broken 🤦‍♂️

I'm in the same boat rn. Filed 5 weeks ago and crickets. This sucks.

Have you tried calling them? Sometimes you can get more info if you actually talk to someone. Fair warning tho, getting through on the phone is a nightmare.

I've tried calling a few times but always get the busy signal or it hangs up on me. Any tips for getting through?

Pro tip: I found this site called claimyr.com that has a calling tool. It dials the phone menu, stays on hold, and then connects you when a live agent picks up. It costs $20 but it actually works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/DOLxZQb92wM

$20 just to talk to someone? That sounds kinda sketchy tbh 🤔

I thought so too at first, but after wasting hours trying to get through myself, it was totally worth it. Saved me so much time and stress.

Can confirm, I used it too. Expensive but it works.

Make sure you've submitted all the required documents. Sometimes they're waiting on something and don't tell you. Check your online account to see if there are any pending tasks or messages.

Okay, here's the deal with EDD disability claims: 1. Processing time: It typically takes 14-21 days for EDD to process a claim, but it can be longer if they're backlogged. 2. What to do while waiting: - Check your online account regularly for updates or requests - Make sure all your docs are submitted (medical certification is crucial) - Keep a record of your disability dates and any work attempts 3. If it's been more than 3 weeks: - Try calling (yeah, it's a pain, but sometimes necessary) - Consider contacting your local state representative for help 4. Payments: - Once approved, you'll get backpay from your disability start date - Payments are usually bi-weekly Hope this helps! Let me know if you have any other questions.

This is super helpful, thank you! I'll double-check all my docs and try calling again.

Great info! Quick question - do you know if there's a way to check the status of your claim online?

QuantumQuest

Yes! You can check your claim status through SDI Online. Just log in to your account and look for the 'Claim Status' section. It should show if your claim is pending, approved, or if they need more info.

Has anyone had luck with the online chat feature? I've been trying to use it but keep getting kicked out of the queue.

Online chat is useless imo. Always disconnects or the agents cant help with anything beyond basic stuff.

I actually had a good experience with chat last week! Got through after about an hour wait. Maybe try early in the morning?

Protip: if you're really desperate, reach out to your state assembly member or senator. Their office can sometimes help speed things up with EDD.

This! My assemblymember's office was super helpful when I was stuck in EDD limbo for months.

How do you even find out who your assembly member is? 😅

Just google '[your city] state assembly member' and it should come up. Most have contact forms on their websites for constituent services.

Anyone else notice that EDD seems to be moving slower lately? I filed in January and it was pretty quick, but my friend filed last month and is still waiting. Wonder if they're backlogged again.
