Stuck in limbo with disability payments - any tips to check status or get updates from EDD?
Hey everyone, I'm trying to figure out what's going on with my disability payments. Has anyone else been having trouble getting updates on their payment status? I've been waiting for a while now and I'm starting to get worried. Any advice on how to check or who to contact would be really helpful!

Ugh, I feel you. The disability payment system is such a mess rn. I've been waiting for weeks and still nothing. Have you tried calling their hotline? It's a total nightmare, but sometimes you can get lucky.

Calling is the worst š« I spent 3 hours on hold last week and then got disconnected. There has to be a better way!

I found a way to actually get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/1X-mEsLtbmQ

Sounds too good to be true. Has anyone else tried this?

20 bucks? Idk man, seems kinda steep just to make a phone call.

I get the skepticism, but it seriously saved me hours of frustration. Worth every penny imo. They even refund you if it doesn't work.

Can confirm, I used it last month. Expensive but beats wasting hours on hold

Have you checked your online account? Sometimes they update the status there before sending out notifications. It's not perfect, but it's worth a shot.

Have you checked your online account? Sometimes they update the status there before sending out notifications. Also, make sure all your paperwork is up to date ā they can hold payments if anything's missing.

This might sound dumb, but double check your mail. I missed a letter asking for additional info and it delayed my payments for weeks š¤¦āāļø

Here's what I've learned after dealing with disability payments for the past year: ā¢ Always keep copies of EVERYTHING you submit ā¢ Set up direct deposit if you haven't already ā paper checks can get lost ā¢ Check your online account at least once a week ā¢ If you call, try early morning or late afternoon ā¢ Be prepared to appeal if they deny you ā it's common and not the end of the road ā¢ Join local support groups or Facebook groups for more specific advice Hang in there, OP. The system sucks, but you'll get through it!

Quick question - how long did your appeal take? I just filed one and I'm freaking out about the wait

@profile12 My appeal took about 6 weeks, but I've heard it can vary. Def call and check on it if you don't hear anything after a month

I've been dealing with this for MONTHS. The whole system is broken af. š¤¬ My advice? Document everything. Every call, every letter, every update. You might need it if things go sideways.

I heard they're super backed up bc of covid still. My cousin works for the state (not disability dept) and she said its a mess everywhere. Might just need to wait it out š

Hey OP, can you give us more details? Like how long have you been waiting? Did you receive any confirmation when you first applied? Knowing more might help us give better advice.

Sure thing! It's been about 3 weeks since I applied. I got an email confirmation right after submitting my application, but radio silence since then. No updates, no requests for more info, nothing.

Hmm, 3 weeks isn't too bad yet. They say it can take up to 6 weeks for processing. But def keep an eye on it and maybe try calling next week if you still don't hear anything.

Here's what I've learned from my experience with disability payments: 1. Be patient. The system is slow, but it (usually) works eventually. 2. Check your online account regularly for updates. 3. If you need to call, do it early in the morning or late in the day. 4. Make sure all your paperwork is in order and easily accessible. 5. If you're really stuck, consider reaching out to your local representative's office. They can sometimes help push things along. 6. Join Facebook groups or forums specific to your state's disability program. They often have good insider tips. 7. Don't be afraid to follow up. Sometimes applications fall through the cracks. Hang in there, OP. I know it's frustrating, but you'll get through this!

Has anyone tried the new mobile app they launched? I heard it's supposed to make checking your status easier, but idk if it actually works.

I tried it. It's... okay? Better than nothing, but still pretty glitchy. Classic government tech š
