Help! Messed up SDI claim start date after maternity leave - Can I fix this?
Hey everyone, I messed up big time with my SDI claim start date and I'm freaking out. I had my baby on March 5th and my work gives me 6 weeks paid leave. I meant to put April 16th as my SDI start date (after my work leave ends) but I accidentally put March 16th instead. Now I'm worried this will mess everything up. Can I change this? Also, is it even okay to start SDI 6 weeks after giving birth? I'm so confused and stressed about this whole process.

Congrats on the baby! š Don't stress too much, mistakes happen. You can definitely get this fixed. Here's what you need to do: ⢠Contact EDD ASAP. The sooner, the better. ⢠Explain the situation clearly - mention it was an error on the form. ⢠Request to change your start date from March 16 to April 16. ⢠Ask them to confirm if starting SDI 6 weeks post-delivery is allowed (it should be, but always good to double-check). ⢠Keep all communication in writing if possible for your records. ⢠Follow up if you don't hear back within a week. Remember, the EDD deals with these kinds of issues all the time. They're used to helping people fix mistakes. Good luck!

ā¢This is great advice! I had a similar issue last year and following these steps helped me get it sorted out quickly.

ā¢Quick question - do you know if theres a specific form for correctin dates? or do we just call/email them?

ā¢@profile3 In my experience, there's no specific form. Just call or email them explaining the situation. They'll guide you through the process or send any necessary forms.

ā¢I found a way to get someone on the phone fast. There's this site called claimyr.com that has a calling tool. It dials through the menu, waits on hold, and then calls you when a real person picks up. It costs $20 but it saved me hours of frustration. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/1X-mEsLtbmQ

ā¢I'm skeptical. How do we know this isn't just some scam?

ā¢I get the skepticism, but it's legit. I was desperate after trying to get through for weeks and it worked for me. Just sharing what helped me, take it or leave it š¤·āāļø

You should be fine starting SDI 6 weeks after birth. I did the same thing last year. As long as you're still within your claim period, it shouldn't be an issue.

Quick question - does anyone know if changing the start date affects the total amount of benefits you can receive? Or does it just shift the timeline?

Landon Morgan
ā¢It shouldn't affect the total amount, just shifts when you start receiving them. But double-check with EDD to be sure!

Don't panic! This is actually a pretty common mistake and totally fixable. I had a similar situation with my disability claim last year. Here's what worked for me: 1. Call EDD as soon as possible - the earlier you catch it, the easier it is to fix 2. When you get through (yes, it might take a while), explain that you made an error on your start date and need to correct it from March 16 to April 16 3. They'll likely ask you to verify some information and explain why the date needs to change 4. Get a confirmation number or reference number for the change request Starting SDI 6 weeks after birth is totally normal and allowed - lots of people do this when they have employer-paid leave first. The key is just getting that date corrected so there's no confusion about overlapping benefits. You've got this! It's stressful but definitely not unfixable. Congrats on your new baby! š¶
