EDD not paying full 14 days of unemployment - how to resolve partial payments?

So I'm having this issue with my unemployment payments. They're not paying me for the full 14 days I'm supposed to get. I've been trying to figure out why but it's so frustrating. Has anyone else dealt with this? I'm worried about how I'm gonna make ends meet if I'm not getting the full amount I'm entitled to. Any advice on how to handle this or what to say when I finally get through to someone?

I found a way to solve unemployment payment shortages, watch this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qc4D7scQ8X0

Pro tip: When you finally get through, ask for a "claim specialist" right away. Regular reps often don't have the authority to fix payment issues. Saved me weeks of back-and-forth!

Have you considered that there might be a holiday or weekend in that 14-day period? They don't count those days, which is total BS if you ask me. πŸ™„

Omg I didn't even think of that! That could explain it. Still sucks tho

Yeah, they're real sticklers about that. Gotta love bureaucracy πŸ™ƒ

Look into what days they count as holidays. Sometimes it’s not what you’d expect.

I've been dealing with this exact issue for MONTHS. It's like talking to a brick wall. I've called, emailed, even sent a freaking carrier pigeon (jk, but I'm considering it). Nothing seems to work. Anyone know if we can file some kind of complaint or appeal?

There's an appeals process, but its about as effective as screaming into the void. Still, might be worth a shot?

Have you tried contacting your local representative? Sometimes they can light a fire under EDD's a**

Also, see if there are any local advocacy groups that assist with unemployment issues. They might have some insights.

I found a way to actually get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/1X-mEsLtbmQ

Wait, seriously? $20 just to talk to someone? That's ridiculous!

Sounds sketchy. How do you know it's legit?

I get the skepticism, but I was desperate and it actually worked for me. Saved me hours of frustration. Worth it IMO.

How long did you have to wait after using this service?

I tried it too, and I was connected in about 15 minutes. Beats waiting on hold for hours!

ugh same boat here 😫 its like they just decide to pay whatever they feel like. have you tried checking your payment history online? sometimes there's notes there about why certain weeks weren't paid

-

Mateusius Townsend

Yeah, I checked but there's nothing there. Just shows the partial payments πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ

Classic EDD move. They probably "lost" your certification or some BS like that. Keep pushing!

It might help to double-check your certification weeks. I found out once they missed my certifications because of a system error.

guys I think I cracked the code. If you call at exactly 3:17 pm on a Tuesday while standing on one foot and reciting the pledge of allegiance backwards, you'll get through instantly. Trust me, I'm an EDD whisperer πŸ§™β€β™‚οΈπŸ“ž

Unpopular opinion: maybe try going in person to an EDD office? I know it's a pain, but sometimes face-to-face is the only way to get things done. Just bring a book and prepare to wait ALL day.

Mateusius Townsend

Didn't even know that was an option. Do they take walk-ins?

Mary Bates

Some do, but call ahead to check. And get there EARLY. Like, crack-of-dawn early.

It can be worth it if you live nearby. I went once and got my issue sorted.

Have you checked if there were any changes to your claim recently? Sometimes they adjust the weekly benefit amount without telling you, and it can mess up your payments. Might be worth asking about that specifically when you call.

Mary Bates

I agree. They once slashed my benefits because they said I had additional income β€” which I definitely didn't.

Claimyr seems to be a useful tool in attempting to connect with EDD representatives quickly, particularly for those who have tried to reach them unsuccessfully through traditional means. While the $20 fee may seem steep, many have vouched for its effectiveness in saving time and reducing frustration. However, it's important to also consider if the cost is justifiable for each individual's situation, or if other free methods could be attempted first. Furthermore, maintaining comprehensive records and documentation of your claims and payment history can aid in resolving issues more swiftly when you do get through. Balance between different strategies might just lead to a quicker resolution.

I've been there, buddy. It's a total nightmare trying to get this sorted out. Here's what worked for me: 1. Document everything. Keep a record of all your payments and the dates you certified. 2. When you call, be super specific about the dates you're missing payments for. 3. Ask them to explain why those days weren't paid. Don't let them brush you off. 4. If they can't give you a good reason, ask to speak to a supervisor. 5. Follow up with an email or letter summarizing your call. Good luck! The system is a mess, but don't give up.
