EDD denying SDI benefits due to employer pay error - need urgent appeal advice!
I'm having a nightmare with my SDI claim. EDD says my employer is paying me full salary, but they're only covering 30%! Now I'm denied benefits and haven't seen a dime in 7 weeks. Anyone else deal with this mess? How do I fix it ASAP? I'm trying to appeal but don't know where to start. What kind of proof do I need from my job? And how long does this appeal process usually take? I'm worried about transitioning to PFL later too. This is so frustrating. Any advice on handling the appeal or getting by without income while waiting?

Ugh, classic EDD mixup. 🙄 Here's what you need to do: 1. Get a letter from your employer stating your actual pay arrangement (30%, not full) 2. Request a copy of what info your company sent to EDD 3. File an appeal ASAP with all this documentation 4. Apply for PFL now if you need income - you can do this before SDI is resolved 5. Keep bugging EDD for updates Appeals can take weeks to months, so be prepared for a wait. Good luck!

•Thanks for the detailed steps! Quick q - for #4, will applying for PFL now mess up my SDI appeal?

•Nah, you should be good. PFL and SDI are separate programs. Just make sure you're clear about dates on both applications.

•Careful what you wish for. An overhaul might make things worse before they get better.

I found a way to actually get someone on the phone at EDD. Used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video explaining it: https://youtu.be/1X-mEsLtbmQ

•Sounds sketchy. Is it legit?

•Yeah, totally legit. I was skeptical too but it saved me hours of hold time.

•Wait, we gotta PAY to talk to a government agency now? That's messed up.

•I get it, but for me, time is money. Rather pay $20 than waste a whole day on hold.

Pro tip: When u apply for PFL, claim the max benefit weeks upfront. It's easier and ensures u get all ur eligible benefits without having to reapply later.

•Good to know! Can you still adjust the weeks later if needed?

•Nah, once u claim max weeks its locked in. But most ppl find it more convenient

•Unless ur situation might change, then maybe dont claim all at once. Depends on ur circumstances

Anyone know if theres a way to do intermittent leave with PFL? Like work some days/weeks on and off?

•Yeah, you can do intermittent PFL but it's a pain to manage. Gotta certify for each period you take off.

•Its possible but a headache to track. Make sure ur employer is cool with it first

Don't give up yet! I know it's incredibly frustrating, but you have rights here. Document everything - pay stubs showing the 30%, any communication with your employer about the arrangement, and keep records of all EDD interactions. Consider filing a complaint with your state assembly representative too - they often have caseworkers who can intervene with EDD on your behalf. Also look into local legal aid organizations that might help with disability appeals for free. In the meantime, see if you qualify for any emergency assistance programs in your county. Food banks, utility assistance, etc. can help bridge the gap while you fight this. You've got 7 weeks invested already - don't let EDD's incompetence win!
