EDD SDI claim vanishing from system - filed 2 weeks ago but 'no claim' appears with SSN
I'm at my wits' end with this EDD disability mess. My wife submitted her SDI claim on May 3rd (about 2 weeks ago) and her doctor confirmed they filed the medical certification portion right away. But when she calls the EDD number and enters her social security number, the automated system says 'no claim comes up with this social.' Yet when she checks SDI Online, it shows her claim as 'pending processing.' How can it be pending if the phone system doesn't even recognize her claim exists? Has anyone dealt with this weird glitch? She needs these benefits to start soon since her short-term disability through work is almost exhausted. Should we file a new claim or would that make things worse?

same exact thing happened to me!! filed in april, showed pending online but phone system couldn't find my claim for like 3 weeks. dont resubmit!! it'll just make it worse and delay everything longer. the systems don't sync up right away

Thanks for the response! Did you do anything to fix it or just wait? It's been two weeks already and I'm getting nervous about bills piling up while we wait.

This is actually pretty common with EDD right now. Their online system and phone system run on different databases that don't update at the same time. The online status is typically more accurate. If you try to file a new claim, you'll likely get flagged for potential fraud and that will delay things even more! I'd say give it another week before really panicking.

Another week? That's so frustrating. Her last paycheck is coming this Friday and then we're relying on these benefits. I wish they'd fix their systems...

This is exactly why I recommend people use Claimyr (claimyr.com) to get through to an actual EDD rep. They'll connect you directly to an EDD agent in minutes instead of dealing with the endless calling and hanging up cycle. I was in the same situation - online showed pending but nothing happened for weeks until I finally spoke to someone. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/1X-mEsLtbmQ?si=1hcSq3KFtCr4oAmd - it saved me so much stress during my disability claim process.

I'll check that out - at this point I'd try anything to get some real answers about her claim.

Here's what's likely happening: when you submit a claim online, it enters the SDI Online system immediately (showing as \

Thank you for the detailed explanation! I'll double-check all those details with her. We definitely have the right SSN but I'm not sure about that effective date. She stopped working on April 29th and filed on May 3rd, so hopefully that matches what the doctor put.

This is very common. I process these forms in a medical office and people don't realize how often simple data entry errors cause these delays. Sometimes we transpose numbers in the SSN or birthdate, or the name doesn't exactly match what EDD has on file (like using a nickname vs. legal name). Definitely worth checking with the doctor's office.

I hadn't even thought about that possibility! Will call her doctor's office first thing tomorrow morning to verify. Thanks for this suggestion!

btw if you need money fast dont count on EDD lol. even after my claim was approved it took another 2 weeks to get the first payment. their backend is so messed up

That's terrifying :( We were counting on this coming through relatively quickly. Might need to look into some emergency loans if it's going to take that long.

Update for anyone who finds this thread: I spoke with an EDD rep yesterday about this exact issue. The disconnect between phone system and online system is a known issue. Here's the latest official guidance:\n\n1. Trust the SDI Online status as the accurate one\n2. New claims take 14-21 calendar days to process right now (as of May 2025)\n3. If your doctor submitted via SDI Online, the claim should eventually appear\n4. Only file a new claim if explicitly instructed by an EDD representative\n\nAlso, make sure you completed the ID.me verification if prompted - many claims are delayed because claimants miss this step.

Thank you so much for this update! That timeline is longer than we hoped but at least now we have realistic expectations. I don't think she got any ID.me verification prompt but I'll have her double check her email and spam folder.

Just saw your replies about needing money quickly while waiting. If your wife qualifies for SDI, she's probably also eligible for a temporary disability advance. Call and specifically ask for this - they can sometimes issue a partial payment while the full claim is still processing. Not everyone knows to ask for this!

This is incredibly helpful! I had no idea this was even an option. We'll definitely ask about this if we can get through to someone. Thank you!
