Does EDD pay SDI benefits on the last day of claim (ending date)
Quick question about the end date for disability benefits. My SDI claim ends on January 23rd, 2025, and I'm confused if I actually get paid for that final day or if the payments stop the day before. My benefit amount is $1,345 weekly, so even one day makes a difference for my budget. When I called EDD, I got disconnected twice and couldn't get a straight answer. Can someone clarify if the end date listed on my claim is included in the benefit payments? Thanks!

Yes, you get paid for the end date too! The benefits include BOTH the start date AND end date on your claim. So if your claim says it ends on the 23rd, you'll get paid through that day. It's one of the few things EDD actually does right lol.

•Thank you! That's a relief to hear. I was worried they might cut it off before that final day.

I had the same question when my disability ended last month. The end date IS included in your benefit period. So you'll get paid through the 23rd. Make sure you've done your final certification though! If you're going back to work on the 24th, you should indicate that on your certification form.

The official EDD policy is that the end date on your Notice of Computation IS included in your benefit period. So yes, you'll be paid for the 23rd. However, if you returned to work on the 23rd, you would NOT get benefits for that day. The rule is that you can't receive SDI benefits for days you worked, even if it's the last day of your claim period. If you're not working on the 23rd, then you'll receive benefits for that full day.

•That makes sense. I'm not planning to return to work until the 24th, so I should get the full benefit through the 23rd then.

•Have you tried using Claimyr to reach EDD? I was in the same situation - couldn't get through for days. Claimyr connected me to an EDD agent in about 10 minutes. It was worth it to get my issue resolved quickly. Their website is claimyr.com and they have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/1X-mEsLtbmQ?si=1hcSq3KFtCr4oAmd. They basically wait on hold for you and call you when an agent picks up.

When I was on disability last year, I got confused about this too. The EDD rep told me that you get paid FOR the end date as long as you're still disabled on that day. But make sure your doctor didn't accidentally put the wrong end date on your medical certification! That happened to me and caused a whole mess with my claim.

•I double-checked my claim documents and the end date matches what my doctor submitted, so hopefully I won't have that issue. Thanks for the warning though!

u might get less money for that day tho cuz they calculate it weird. like if ur weekly benefit is $1345 they divide by 7 so each day is worth $192.14 but I think they round down or something cuz my last payment was a few dollars off from what I calculated

•That's correct. EDD calculates daily benefit amounts by dividing your weekly benefit amount by 7, regardless of whether there are business days or weekends. For a $1,345 weekly benefit, each day would be approximately $192.14, but they may apply rounding that affects the final amount slightly.

I think it depends if it's SDI or PFL honestly. When I was on paid family leave they paid differently than when I was on regular disability. The whole system is confusing!!!!

•Both SDI and PFL handle end dates the same way - they both include the end date in the benefit period. The confusion might come from when you returned to work or if there were other factors affecting your claim. But the official policy is consistent across both programs.

Has anyone else noticed that the payments sometimes take an extra day to process at the end of a claim? My last week of disability took longer to hit my account than the previous payments did. Just something to keep in mind in case you're budgeting really tight.

•That's good to know! I'll make sure I have enough funds to cover a potential delay. I can't afford any surprises right now.

I just went through this exact situation last month! Yes, you absolutely get paid for the end date - January 23rd is included in your benefit period. I was worried about the same thing because my claim ended on a Wednesday and I wasn't sure if I'd get that final day. But EDD paid me through the end date just like everyone else is saying. Just make sure you complete your final certification correctly and don't indicate that you returned to work on the 23rd if you're actually starting back on the 24th. The daily amount should be your $1,345 divided by 7, so about $192 for that final day. Hope this helps ease your mind!

•Thanks for sharing your experience! It's really reassuring to hear from someone who just went through this exact situation. I was definitely overthinking it, but with my tight budget every dollar matters. I'll make sure to be super careful on my final certification form - I don't want to accidentally mess anything up at the last minute. Really appreciate everyone taking the time to help clarify this!

I'm new to this whole SDI process and reading through everyone's responses has been super helpful! I have a similar question - my disability claim is supposed to end next month but I'm still not 100% sure when I'll be able to return to work. What happens if I need to extend my claim past the original end date? Do I need to get new paperwork from my doctor or does EDD automatically review it? I'm worried about having a gap in benefits if there's any delay in processing. Also, does anyone know if there's a limit to how many times you can extend a disability claim? Thanks in advance for any guidance!

•Hey Caleb! Welcome to the community. For extending your SDI claim, you'll need to get updated medical certification from your doctor before your current claim ends. Don't wait until the last minute - start the process at least 2 weeks before your end date to avoid any gaps in benefits. Your doctor will need to fill out a new form explaining why you're still unable to work and provide a new expected return date. EDD doesn't automatically extend claims, so it's on you to initiate this. As for limits, there's no specific number of extensions, but SDI benefits are generally limited to 52 weeks total per disability period. If you need benefits beyond that, you'd typically need to file a new claim for a different condition. Hope this helps!

I'm dealing with a similar situation right now - my claim ends in February and I've been stressing about whether that final day counts. Reading through all these responses has been so helpful! It sounds like the consensus is clear that you DO get paid for the end date, which is a huge relief. I had no idea about the daily calculation being your weekly amount divided by 7 either. That's really useful to know for budgeting purposes. Thanks everyone for sharing your experiences - this community is such a lifesaver when you can't get through to EDD directly!

•I'm so glad this thread has been helpful for you too! I was in the exact same boat a few months ago - constantly refreshing my EDD account and doing mental math about that final day. It really does make a difference when you're budgeting tight. One thing I learned is to also keep track of when your payments typically hit your account, because like someone mentioned earlier, sometimes that final payment can be delayed by a day or two. I started screenshotting my payment dates just to have a record in case I ever needed to reference them later. This community really is amazing - we're all just trying to navigate this confusing system together!

I'm new here and going through my first SDI claim - this thread is exactly what I needed! My claim ends next week and I've been losing sleep wondering about that final day payment. It's so frustrating that something this basic isn't clearly explained anywhere on the EDD website. From what everyone's saying, it sounds like I will get paid through my end date as long as I'm still disabled that day. Quick follow-up question though - when you do your final certification, do you mark that you're "able and available" for the end date if you're planning to return to work the next day? I don't want to accidentally mess up my final payment by answering incorrectly. Thanks for all the helpful info everyone!
