EDD SDI payment dates changed randomly - missing final pregnancy disability payments before baby bonding
Has anyone else had their EDD SDI claim dates mysteriously change in the system? I've been on pregnancy disability since November and my claim was supposed to end February 28th, 2025. I just logged in yesterday and saw my return-to-work date had changed to January 25th! Then today I checked again and it's back to February 28th?! I haven't received ANY payments since February 10th despite still being on approved leave. I'm missing about $1,850 in benefits for my final weeks. Even more frustrating, I can't figure out how to transition to baby bonding (PFL). My employer offers their own paid family leave program but I should qualify for state benefits too since I've been paying into SDI. The EDD phone line just disconnects me after 45 minutes of waiting. I'm returning to work March 15th and panicking about getting these final payments and sorting out this date confusion. Anyone deal with this type of system glitch before?

This happened to me back in December! The system was glitching during their updates. My return date kept switching between two different dates about 3 weeks apart. The issue is that when those dates change, it can interrupt your payment processing. You need to call them ASAP because even though the correct date appears now, your payments might still be stuck in limbo because of the glitch. As for transitioning to PFL for baby bonding, you should have received a form called DE 2501FP automatically about a week before your pregnancy disability ended. Did you get that?

•No, I never received any DE 2501FP form! Should I have gotten it in the mail or online? I'm wondering if it got sent when the system temporarily changed my end date incorrectly. Do you think that's why I'm missing the last payments too?

•This seems to be happening A LOT lately with pregnancy claims specifically. The EDD SDI system has been super glitchy since they did that system upgrade in January. Everyone I know who's been on maternity leave this year has had at least one payment delay or weird date change. They really need to fix their tech issues!

Let me clarify a few things about your situation: 1. The date changes are definitely a system glitch, but they DO affect your payment processing. When the return-to-work date temporarily changed to January, the system likely stopped processing payments after that date. 2. For the missing final payments: You'll need to contact EDD to manually correct this. The payments won't automatically resume even though the date is now correct. 3. For baby bonding/PFL: This is a separate claim from your disability. You should have received a form called DE 2501FP (Paid Family Leave form) to transition to baby bonding. Since you didn't get it, you'll need to apply for PFL separately. 4. The fact that your employer has a separate paid family leave program doesn't disqualify you from state benefits, but you might need to provide documentation showing how they work together. You absolutely need to speak with an EDD representative to fix both issues. I'd recommend trying to call right when they open at 8:00 AM.

•Thank you so much for this detailed explanation! I've tried calling right at 8am for the past three days but still can't get through. Is there any other way to contact them about this? The online message system is so vague and I'm afraid they won't understand my specific situation.

If ur employer is paying u for baby bonding then u CAN'T get state PFL at the same time, that would be double-dipping. Atleast that's what happened to me last year. But u should definitely still get those last pregnancy disability payments!! That's ridiculous they haven't paid u.

•This isn't entirely accurate. While you can't receive more than 100% of your wages combined, you CAN receive both employer and state benefits if your employer program pays less than your full salary. The state benefit would just be reduced accordingly. Many employer programs are designed to supplement state benefits, not replace them entirely.

I had the EXACT same problem in January and it took me THREE WEEKS of constant calling to fix it! I was about to lose my mind because rent was due and I still hadn't received my final payments. I finally got through to someone using Claimyr (claimyr.com) - they have a service that gets you through to an actual EDD agent instead of waiting on hold forever just to get disconnected. You can see how it works in their video here: https://youtu.be/1X-mEsLtbmQ?si=1hcSq3KFtCr4oAmd It was the only way I could actually talk to someone. The agent I spoke with said that when the system does those random date changes, it creates a flag in their system that has to be manually cleared before payments can resume. Even though the date showed correctly again, the payments were still being held up by that flag. They fixed it for me and I got my payment two days later.

•Thank you! I'll check out that service because I'm getting desperate. Did you have to file a separate claim for baby bonding or did they help you with that transition too?

•Yes! The agent I spoke with helped me file the PFL claim right there on the phone since I never got the transition form either. They can actually do both things in one call if you get the right person. Much better than trying to figure it out through their confusing website.

Im in the SAME boat right now!! My return date keeps flipflopping between 2 different dates and my last payment was supposed to come on the 15th but nothing yet. SO FRUSTRATING!!! I hate how they make everything so difficult for new moms. Like we don't have enough to worry about with a newborn??

Here's what you need to do step by step: 1. Call EDD SDI first thing in the morning (use that Claimyr service someone mentioned if you keep getting disconnected) 2. Explain that you need TWO things fixed: the missing payments due to date glitch AND filing for PFL baby bonding 3. For the missing payments: Ask them to check for a "stop payment alert" or "return to work flag" that might have been triggered by the date glitch 4. For baby bonding: Tell them you never received the DE 2501FP form and need to file a PFL claim 5. Make sure to mention that you've already returned to work on March 15th so they understand the urgency 6. Get the representative's ID number and notes from the call One last tip - if your employer's baby bonding pay is less than your full salary, you should definitely apply for state PFL to make up some of the difference. You just need to report how much your employer is paying you so EDD can calculate the correct supplemental amount.

This is total garbage! EDD is THE WORST when it comes to these system glitches. They've been happening constantly since their so-called "upgrade" in January. I work in HR and I've had DOZENS of employees dealing with exactly this issue in the past few months. The worst part is that EDD acts like it's YOUR problem to fix when THEIR system is broken!! And good luck getting through on the phone - they've clearly understaffed their call center. My advice? Besides getting someone on the phone, go to your state assembly member's office. They have special EDD liaisons who can cut through the red tape. It's ridiculous that we have to resort to this, but I've had several employees get results this way when nothing else worked.

•That's a great suggestion about contacting my assembly member! I hadn't thought of that option. I'm going to try calling again tomorrow using the Claimyr service someone mentioned, but if that doesn't work, I'll definitely reach out to my assembly member's office. It's ridiculous we have to go to these lengths!

I'm dealing with a very similar situation right now! My SDI dates have been changing randomly too and I'm missing payments from the last two weeks of February. What's really concerning is that I'm seeing this pattern across multiple posts in this community - it seems like EDD's system update in January created widespread issues specifically for pregnancy disability claims. Has anyone tried filing a complaint with the California Department of Consumer Affairs about these systemic issues? I'm wondering if there's a way to escalate this beyond individual claims since it's clearly affecting so many people. We shouldn't have to use third-party services or contact assembly members just to get the benefits we've paid into! Also @PrinceJoe - definitely try the assembly member route if the phone calls don't work. I've heard they can sometimes get results within a few days compared to weeks of trying to get through to EDD directly.
