Missing wages on EDD SDI pregnancy claim - can't contact former employer who shut down

So frustrated with my EDD SDI claim right now! Looking at my wage information, there's a 3-month gap showing zero wages from January-March 2025. I'm pretty sure this is affecting my weekly benefit amount for my pregnancy disability. The timing couldn't be worse because my employer actually closed several locations and completely changed management while I was out on pregnancy disability leave. I have no idea how to get this fixed or who to even contact now that my workplace basically doesn't exist anymore! Has anyone dealt with missing wages on their claim? Do I need to somehow track down my old payroll department? This feels impossible and I'm already stressed enough with a newborn!

This is definitely affecting your benefit amount. When EDD calculates your SDI benefits, they look at your highest-paid quarter during your base period. If you're missing 3 months of wages, that could significantly reduce your weekly benefit amount. You need to file a wage correction request with EDD. You'll want to gather any proof of those missing wages - paystubs, direct deposit records, W-2, anything showing you were paid during those months. Then call EDD and specifically request a wage investigation. They can contact your former employer's tax ID even if the physical business closed.

Thank you so much! I'll definitely look through my bank statements for those direct deposits. Do you know how long a wage investigation usually takes? I'm already 6 weeks into my claim and barely making it financially on the reduced amount.

omg i had the EXACT same thing happen to me last year!! it was only 2 months of missing wages for me tho. took FOREVER to fix. had to send in like a million paystubs and tax forms and they still calculated it wrong the first time. ugh. keep trying tho, it's worth it when u finally get backpay!

Oh wow, that's both encouraging and discouraging lol. At least I know it's possible to fix. How long did the whole process take for you?

This is a common issue that happens when employers fail to properly report wages to EDD. You have two options: 1. Contact EDD directly and request a "wage investigation" - be prepared with evidence of your employment (paystubs, bank deposits, etc.) 2. Complete a DE 1326C form - "Claim for Additional Disability Benefits" - this lets you contest the wage calculation. And since you mentioned your employer closed locations, make sure you check if you qualify for any additional benefits like WARN Act payments if they didn't give proper notice of closure. The most important thing is documenting proof of those wages. Your benefit calculation is based on your highest-earning quarter in the base period, so those missing months could significantly impact your benefit amount.

Thank you for explaining all this! I had no idea about the DE 1326C form - I'll look for that right now. And I definitely didn't know about WARN Act payments. I'll have to check if that applies since they basically told us about the closure with almost no notice.

I've tried calling at least 15 times this week and can't get through 😩 Either busy signal or it hangs up after the automated message saying too many callers

Trust me, I've been dealing with EDD for years and this wage issue is something they actually CAN fix, but you NEED to get through to a real person. If you can't reach anyone after multiple attempts, I highly recommend using Claimyr (claimyr.com). It's the only service that actually worked for me after wasting weeks trying to get through to SDI. They have a system that places you in the EDD call queue and calls you back when an agent is available. You can see how it works in their video demo: https://youtu.be/1X-mEsLtbmQ?si=1hcSq3KFtCr4oAmd Once you get through, specifically ask for the "Wage Investigation Unit" and tell them you need to dispute missing wages. Have your paystubs and bank statements ready. They can access employer tax records even for closed businesses.

is that service legit? ive never heard of it before. seems kinda sketch to have someone else call edd for you??

I used to work in payroll and this happens more than you'd think. Even if your employer closed, their EDD account and tax ID still exist in the system. The new management should have access to the old payroll records - it's required by law that they maintain those records even if they shut down locations. Call EDD and specifically request to speak with someone in the wage investigation unit. They can pull employer tax records that might show those missing wages. If not, they can open a formal investigation.

Thank you!! That makes me feel better. I'll try to track down someone from the new management company. Do you happen to know how long they legally have to keep those payroll records?

I went through a similar situation. After DOZENS of calls and getting hung up on repeatedly, I finally reached someone who helped. They told me I needed to complete form DE 1326C, provide proof of wages (bank statements showing deposits worked for me since I couldn't get paystubs), and mail everything to their wage investigation department. It took about 4 weeks, but they eventually adjusted my weekly benefit amount AND sent retroactive payments for the difference. Hang in there!

That's exactly what I need! Thank you so much for sharing your experience. I'll start gathering my bank statements today. 4 weeks is a long wait but at least there's hope!

@profile5 Did you ever get this resolved? I'm curious about which approach worked because I'm dealing with something similar right now - my employer reported incorrect wages for my PFL claim.

Yes! After trying for weeks to call EDD directly with no luck, I ended up using that Claimyr service someone mentioned above. Got through to EDD in about 2 hours. The agent transferred me to the wage investigation unit, and they were actually super helpful. They found my missing wages in their tax system - turns out my employer HAD reported them but they were under a different subsidiary company name I didn't recognize. They're recalculating my benefits now, and I should get backpay for the difference in about 10 days. Definitely worth pursuing!

One important thing to note - there's a time limit on requesting wage investigations. You need to do this within one year of the beginning date of your disability claim. So don't wait too long to get this process started!

Oh thank you for that info! I definitely won't wait. I'm on it this week for sure.

Just wanted to add - if you're having trouble getting through to EDD by phone, try calling right at 8 AM when they open. I've had better luck getting through in the first 30 minutes of the day. Also, when you do get through, ask the representative to note in your file that you've been trying to resolve missing wages - this creates a paper trail that can help if you need to escalate later. Keep all your documentation organized (bank statements, any paystubs you have, W-2s) because they'll likely ask for multiple forms of proof. The wage investigation process can feel overwhelming, but based on what others have shared here, it sounds like it's definitely worth pursuing for the backpay and correct ongoing benefits!
