Can I submit my SAR 7 report online for CalWORKs? Step-by-step help needed
I'm so tired of having to physically drop off my SAR 7 form every 6 months. I heard some people can submit it online now but my worker never mentioned this to me? Can we actually do the Semi-Annual Report online? If yes, how exactly do I do it? Do I need a special account or something? My reporting month is May and I don't want my Cash Aid to get cut off because I'm working part-time now and need to report my income. Last time I drove all the way to the office and they were closed for training! 😡

Yes, you can definitely submit your SAR 7 online through BenefitsCal! It's way easier than going to the office. Here's how: 1. Log into your BenefitsCal account at www.benefitscal.com (or create one if you don't have it yet) 2. On your dashboard, you should see a section for "Reports Due" 3. Click on your SAR 7 that's listed there 4. Fill out all the sections (income, household changes, etc.) 5. Upload any required verification documents (paystubs, etc.) 6. Submit and keep the confirmation number Just make sure you complete it before the 5th of your submit month (which would be June if May is your report month). The system does maintenance sometimes at night, so I recommend doing it during business hours.

•Thank you so much! I didn't know about BenefitsCal having this option. Do you know if I need to create a separate account or is it the same one I used when I applied originally? And will they still mail me the paper SAR 7 even if I do it online?

•Oh no that's what I'm worried about! Did she have to call them to fix it or go in person? I have 3 paystubs I need to submit from my new job.

The BenefitsCal portal is definitely the way to go for submitting your SAR 7. Just want to add some important details: - You need to set up 2-factor authentication when you create your account - Make sure the phone number in your account is current so you get the verification code - Take clear photos of ALL pages of your paystubs (both sides if there's anything on the back) - If you work multiple jobs, upload proof for each one - The system will show you a summary before final submission - REVIEW THIS CAREFULLY! If your report month is May, you must submit between May 1st and June 5th to be considered timely. Don't wait until the last day in case you run into technical issues.

•I tried to submit mine online last month but the website kept crashing when I tried to upload my documents. Ended up having to drive to the office anyway and got there 5 minutes before they closed 😩 The county systems are so frustrating sometimes.

Been trying to get through to my caseworker for WEEKS about my SAR 7 questions with no luck. Finally used Claimyr (claimyr.com) and got through in 15 minutes! They connected me directly to a person who helped me with my online SAR 7 submission. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/jzISHxCPLwE - total lifesaver when you have urgent questions about your reports and benefits.

•Not a scam at all! I was skeptical too but it seriously works. My worker even helped me figure out why my income verification wasn't going through on BenefitsCal. Apparently the file size was too large and that's why it kept failing.

THE ONLINE SYSTEM SUCKS!!! I did my SAR7 online in February and they STILL cut my benefits saying they never got it!!! I had to go in person with my confirmation number and they made me fill out ANOTHER paper form anyway. What's the point of online if they don't even check it????

•Yup happened to me too. The trick is to call after you submit and make sure they received it. Sometimes the system doesn't sync with their county system correctly - they told me this happens a lot especially around the 1st of the month when their system is overloaded.

One more tip about the online SAR 7 submission - after you submit, you'll get a confirmation page with a long number. TAKE A SCREENSHOT of this page! Some counties also send an email confirmation, but not all do. That confirmation number is your proof that you submitted on time if anything goes wrong. Also, check your BenefitsCal Message Center about 3-5 days after submitting. If there are any issues with your submission or if they need additional verification, they'll send you a message there rather than mailing a paper notice.

•This is really helpful advice, thank you! I just created my BenefitsCal account and can see my SAR 7 is due. Going to try submitting it tomorrow once I get all my paystubs organized. So much better than taking time off work to go to the office!

•Just to clarify - CalWIN is only available in certain counties in California. If your county uses C4Yourself or YourBenefitsNow, you won't be able to use the CalWIN app. BenefitsCal works for all counties though, which is why it's generally recommended for everyone.

Update: I successfully submitted my SAR 7 online through BenefitsCal! It was actually pretty easy once I got logged in. The system walked me through each section and I was able to upload photos of my paystubs directly from my phone. The whole thing took about 30 minutes. Thanks everyone for your help! I'll definitely be doing this online from now on instead of going to the office.

•That's great news! Just remember to check your Message Center in a few days to make sure there are no issues. And set a calendar reminder for your next SAR 7 in November (since May + 6 months = November).

Just wanted to add - if you're having trouble with the mobile version of BenefitsCal, try using a desktop computer instead. I had issues uploading documents on my phone but it worked perfectly on my laptop. Also, make sure your browser allows pop-ups because the confirmation page sometimes opens in a new window. And if you're still getting paper SAR 7 forms in the mail after doing it online, that's normal - they keep sending them until you complete a few online submissions successfully. The system takes time to "learn" your preference.

•Thanks for the tip about using desktop vs mobile! I was wondering about still getting the paper forms - good to know that's normal. Quick question though - when you say the system "learns" your preference, does that mean I won't get paper forms anymore after a few online submissions? Or will they always send both? I'm trying to go paperless as much as possible to reduce clutter.
