CalWORKs diaper allowance - per child or family? How to request?

I just found out CalWORKs has a diaper allowance but not sure how it works. Does anyone know if you get $30 per kid in diapers or just $30 per family total? I have twins who are 14 months and a 2 year old, all still in diapers and it's killing my budget. Do I need to call my worker to ask about this or is there a form I need to fill out? Already spent my cash aid on rent and utilities and really need help with diaper costs right now.

The diaper benefit is $30 PER CHILD under age 3 who needs diapers! So with twins plus your 2yr old, you should get $90/month extra. You just need to tell your worker you have 3 kids in diapers. There's no separate application - they should just add it to your cash aid amount once they verify the children's ages.

OMG really?? $90 would help so much! Do they backdate it if I haven't been getting it? My kids have been on my case since birth.

When I asked bout dipers they said I have to CALL and ASK becuase they dont just add it automaticlly!! Had to call like 5 times b4 someone added it. So annoying but worth it. My worker said its suposed to be automatic but the system dosnt always catch it.

Ugh I hate calling them. Last time I tried I was on hold for over an hour and then got disconnected.

I was having the same issue trying to reach my worker about the diaper benefit. After getting disconnected three times, I found this service called Claimyr that got me through to a real person at the CalWORKs office in like 20 minutes. They called and waited on hold for me, then connected me when a worker picked up. Just had to pay a small fee but totally worth it to actually get someone on the phone. Their site is claimyr.com and they have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/jzISHxCPLwE

do they need all ur personal info? i'm always worried about giving out my info to random websites

You just need to give them your phone number so they can call you when they get a CalWORKs worker on the line. They don't need your case info or anything like that. The service just does the calling and waiting on hold for you.

Just FYI, I had a nightmare with this benefit. First, my worker said it was $30 per family, then another worker said it was per child. Turns out it IS per child but there was a glitch in their computer system that was only adding it once. After 3 months of fighting they finally fixed it and gave me backpay. Also - they should backdate it to when your children became eligible (either from birth or when you started receiving CalWORKs, whichever is later). So you might get a nice lump sum if your kids have been on aid for a while!

That's good to know! My kids have been on CalWORKs since they were born so I should be owed backpay. I'm definitely going to call about this tomorrow.

my sister gets it for her 2 kids - defintly per kid not family

The CalWORKs diaper benefit is officially $30 per child under age 3, not per family. Here's what you need to know: 1. It applies to each child under age 3 in your assistance unit 2. No separate application is needed - just inform your worker 3. The benefit should be added automatically, but system errors happen 4. You're entitled to retroactive payments if you weren't receiving it 5. The benefit ends the month of the child's 3rd birthday With 3 children in diapers, you should be receiving $90/month additional in your cash aid. If you weren't getting this, they owe you backpay to when your children became eligible. Make sure when you call to specifically ask about "retroactive diaper benefit payments" for all three children. Get the worker's name and ask them to note your request in your case notes.

My cousins frend tried to get the diaper thing and they asked for PROOF the kids need diapers can u beleve that??? like how do u even prove that??? But my worker never asked me for anything just added it after I called.

That's not right - there's no requirement to prove diaper use. The only eligibility is having children under 3 years old who are part of your CalWORKs case. Sounds like that worker was making up rules. Always ask to speak to a supervisor if they try to deny benefits that you're eligible for!

wait i didnt even know this was a thing!!! my daughter is 2 and ive been on calworks for a year… does anyone know if theres a form on benefitscal for this or do u have to call?

There's no form on BenefitsCal for this specifically. You need to contact your worker, either by phone or by leaving a message in your BenefitsCal account. Make sure to mention that you'd like the diaper benefit added AND retroactive payments for any months you should have received it but didn't.
