CalWORKs EBT card login issues - birthday and case number don't match after 4 years
I'm at my wits end trying to access my CalWORKs benefits online. For some reason the system keeps rejecting my login attempts saying my EBT card number and case number don't match my birthday. I've triple-checked everything and I KNOW I'm entering the correct info! I've had this same EBT card for 4 years without any problems until now. Called the customer service number but got disconnected twice after waiting 45+ minutes. Has anyone else had this login problem recently? Did they change something in the system? My rent is due next week and I NEED to check if my benefits were deposited!

•OMG that's ridiculous! I just did my redetermination last month too. Maybe that's what happened... Did they fix it right away when you went in person?

Check if youre using BenefitsCal or the old C4Yourself website. They switched everything to BenefitsCal and sometimes the old logins dont work right. Also make sure your typing your birthday exactly like MM/DD/YYYY with the slashes.

•I'm using BenefitsCal. I've tried with and without the slashes, also tried just entering the numbers with no slashes. Nothing works! 😡

I know exactly how frustrating this is! The same thing happened to me a few weeks ago. After many failed attempts to get through to my caseworker, I tried Claimyr.com and was connected to a real person at my county office within 20 minutes. They found out there was a glitch in their system that was affecting several people's accounts after the last system update. The worker reset something on their end and my login worked again right away. They have a video that shows how it works: https://youtu.be/jzISHxCPLwE - saved me hours of frustration!

•Yes, it actually did work for me. I was super skeptical too but was desperate after trying for 3 days to get through. They call the same number we all do but somehow get through the wait queue faster.

This is a known issue that's been happening since they upgraded the BenefitsCal system in February 2025. There are two possible problems: 1. Your identity verification info might have become mismatched during the system migration. This happens especially if you've had your case for several years. 2. Sometimes the system has trouble with birthdates from before 1980 (weird glitch they haven't fixed). You have a few options: - Request a PIN reset by mail (takes 7-10 days) - Visit your county office in person with ID - If you have a smartphone, try the BenefitsCal app instead of the website - sometimes it works when the site doesn't - Use the County IVR system to check your balance by phone instead of online In the meantime, you can always check your EBT card balance by calling the number on the back of your card.

•Thank you for this detailed info! My birthday is in 1987 so that's not the issue. I'll try the app - didn't even know there was one! And thanks for the reminder about checking balance by phone. I just wanted to see the payment dates for this month since sometimes they deposit early.

THE ENTIRE SYSTEM IS DESIGNED TO MAKE US FAIL!!! they purposely make it hard to login so people give up and dont get benefits. i had same issue and went to office they said ohhh its a "glitch" yeah right more like DESIGNED TO FAIL. and they wonder why people hate dealing with calworks.

Have you tried clearing your browser cache and cookies? Sometimes BenefitsCal gets stuck with old login data. Also make sure you're using your CASE number not your CARD number. They're different numbers and people mix them up all the time. The case number is on your approval letters, not your EBT card.

•OMG wait - there's a difference between case number and card number?? I thought my EBT card number WAS my case number! Let me look at my last approval letter... ok so my case number starts with 7 but my card starts with 5... I'm gonna try logging in with the case number instead! Thank you!!

•Glad to help! Let us know if that fixes it. And don't feel bad, I made the same mistake when I first applied.

•I got my SAR7 and turned it in last month, so I don't think that's the issue. But thanks for mentioning it because I should double-check if they received it!

btw if your only worried about if ur benefit was deposited n not tryna actually apply for something just call the EBT number on back of ur card. u can check ur balance n last deposits without logging in to the dumb website.

•Thanks! Someone else mentioned that too. I'll try that for now while I figure out the login issue.

I'm glad you figured it out! This is actually a super common mistake - I work at a local community center and we help people with benefits applications all the time. The case number vs card number confusion trips up SO many people. For anyone else reading this, here's a quick tip: your CASE number is what you use to log into BenefitsCal and it's on all your official letters from the county. Your CARD number is just for the physical EBT card and starts with different digits. Also, if you ever lose your approval letters, you can request copies from your caseworker or pick them up at the county office. Keep those letters somewhere safe because you'll need that case number for online access!
