Been waiting for CalWORKs EBT theft reimbursement for 3 weeks - anyone gotten theirs yet?
My entire CalWORKs cash aid ($893) got wiped from my card on February 7th - someone skimmed it at an ATM I think. Filed a claim with BofA same day and submitted all the theft paperwork to my county worker right away. They said I'd get an emergency replacement in 3-5 business days but it's been THREE WEEKS now and nothing! My rent is already late and landlord is getting mad. Has anyone who had their Cash Aid stolen this month actually gotten reimbursed yet? This is ridiculous - my kids need diapers and I'm down to my last $27. County office keeps saying "it's processing" but won't give me any timeline.

I'm in same boat, got my cash aid stolen on February 2 ($1117) and still nothing. Filed theft report immediately and was told 10 business days. Called BofA 6 times and each time they just say 'case pending' and hang up. County office doesn't answer phones and when I went in person they said I have to wait for BofA. My car payment bounced and now I can't get to my WTW activities. This is a nightmare.

•Have you tried asking for a WTW exemption while this is getting resolved? My worker said I could get temporary good cause for missing activities due to this situation. Worth asking about at least

My sisters cash got stolen 2 months ago and she got it back in like 9 days. But i just read on facebook that there was a huge wave of thefts this month so maybe thats why its taking longer???

•Yeah I heard that too! The lady at the county office said they've had hundreds of theft claims just in our county this month. Doesn't help us though when bills are due now ðŸ˜

How did you file the claim? I found out you HAVE to report it to BofA first, then file police report, THEN submit the BofA claim number and police report to CalWORKs within 10 days. If you did it in wrong order they make you start over. Ask for a supervisor when you call!

•I did exactly that order! BofA claim, then police report (they wouldn't even take it in person - had to do it online), then gave everything to my worker. Still nothing. Did you get yours back yet?

•Just got mine yesterday, took 4 weeks total. But I had to call BofA every single day. Ask specifically for the "fraud claim status" department. Regular customer service reps can't help with EBT theft claims.

This happened to me back in December. I called my county office at least 20 times and always got voicemail. Someone mentioned Claimyr to me (claimyr.com) and it actually worked to get through to a real worker. They have this service where they wait on hold for you and call when someone answers. Costs money but saved me so much stress. There's a video about how it works: https://youtu.be/jzISHxCPLwE Once I finally got through, my worker submitted an emergency replacement request that got approved in 48 hours. They can do it faster if you emphasize you have children and immediate needs like diapers/formula.

•Thank you!! I'm going to try this tomorrow. Did they replace your full amount or just part of it? I keep hearing different things

•They replaced the full amount for me, but I had to be VERY specific about the date and time the money was stolen and exactly how much. If your info doesn't match their records they might deny it.

I work with benefit advocacy and there's been a HUGE spike in EBT theft recently. The process should be: 1. Report to BofA within 90 days (do this ASAP though) 2. File police report 3. Submit EBT theft form to county with both claim # and police report 4. Request emergency replacement specifically for "immediate need" By law, counties must issue emergency replacement within 3 business days for households with children if you request immediate need. If it's been longer than that, ask specifically for a "Welfare to Work Supervisor" as they have authority to expedite emergency issuances. Also document EVERYTHING - dates, times, names of who you spoke with. You may need to file for a fair hearing if they keep delaying.

•This is so helpful! I did request immediate need but my worker never mentioned a 3-day requirement. If I call and specifically mention this timeframe requirement do you think that would help?

•Absolutely - cite California DSS Manual section 44-304.64 which states emergency replacements must be issued within 3 business days when immediate need is established. Speak calmly but firmly and say you're aware of your rights under this regulation. If they still refuse, request a fair hearing on the spot.

I'm sorry your going thru this! This whole system is BROKEN!!! My cash aid got stolen twice in 3 months and the 2nd time they accused ME of fraud!!! Had to wait almost 3 months to get my $$ back and almost got evicted. They don't care about us AT ALL. And why are we still using this garbage BofA system that keeps getting hacked??? Some states have switched to digital wallets but CA is still using this 1990s technology. Makes me so mad!!

•OMG they accused you of fraud?! That's my biggest fear. Did you have to do anything special to prove it wasn't you? I'm so paranoid they're going to deny my claim.

•Yeah they said the transactions happend to close together or something? Like I somehow took all my money out twice in 2 different locations 10 min apart. Had to get all kinds of proof I was at work during those times. Complete nightmare!!!!

•Wait really? I didn't know that was an option! Do you have to be actually facing eviction or just at risk? My landlord gave me until the 10th before starting eviction proceedings.

•u just need to show ur at risk, like a notice from landlord or just explain ur situation. they can give u temporary HA once a year even if ur not homeless yet but might become homeless without help. ask for emergency HA screening asap
