Will CalFresh extra January payment come separately or was it already included in EBT deposit?
Just checked my EBT card and I got my CalFresh benefits loaded finally! Been waiting a while since they had some delays this month. But I'm confused about the extra January amount they announced? The governor said something about supplemental benefits for January 2025 because of inflation, but I can't tell if what I got already includes that extra amount or if it will come as a separate deposit later? The amount seems a little higher than normal but I'm not sure if that's the supplemental or just my regular recalculation. Anyone know if the January extra has been distributed yet?

•I got about $75 more than last month. I thought it was that inflation adjustment they announced in December? The letter was kinda confusing. Said something about 'temporary supplemental nutrition assistance' for January only.

The January 2025 CalFresh supplemental payment you're referring to is being distributed separately from your regular benefits. According to the most recent CDSS directive, all eligible households will receive the supplemental payment within 10 business days after their regular January issuance. The amount varies based on household size - for instance, a household of 1-2 receives $60 extra, 3-4 receives $90 extra, and 5+ receives $120 extra. So the increase you're seeing is likely your regular benefit recalculation (which happens annually in October), not the supplemental payment. Keep checking your EBT balance over the next week or so for that separate deposit.

•That explains it! Thank you so much. I'll keep checking my balance then. Guess the extra $75 was just from reporting my decreased work hours on my last SAR7.

Just to clarify for everyone: The January 2025 CalFresh supplemental is automatic for all active households. You don't need to apply or call anyone. The extra payment will post to your EBT card separately from your regular issuance. If you don't see it within 14 days after your regular January benefits posted, then you should contact your county office. This is different from the regular October adjustment and different from reporting changes on your SAR7. The system is still processing these supplemental payments in batches, so some people will see it earlier than others.

•Thanks for clearing this up! I was also confused because when I called the automated EBT line, it only tells me my current balance, not a breakdown of deposits. Is there a way to see exactly WHEN this extra payment comes in besides just noticing my balance go up? The app isn't showing me detailed deposit history.

•I spent 2 HOURS on hold with my county office yesterday trying to ask about this exact issue!!! The automated system kept disconnecting me every time I got close to speaking with someone. This is RIDICULOUS that they announce these supplements but provide ZERO clear information about when they actually arrive!!! My kids are hungry NOW, not whenever they decide to press the magic button!!

my cousin works for the county and told me that they're sending out the extra payments in batches based on case number. the first batch already went out on Jan 5th, second batch is Jan 10th, and final batch on Jan 15th. so depends on your case number when youll see it

If you're having trouble reaching someone at your county CalFresh office about this or any other issue, I recently found this service called Claimyr that really helped me. Instead of waiting on hold forever, they get a worker to call YOU back. I was skeptical but used it last week when I needed to talk to someone about my missing verification documents. You can see a demo of how it works at https://youtu.be/eZ19FHRETv8?si=_CXnXqNXbLl26WB8 or just go to claimyr.com. Saved me hours of frustration with the phone system. Worth it just to get a clear answer about when these supplemental benefits are coming!

•Does this actually work??? I'm so desperate to talk to someone about my account I'll try ANYTHING at this point. The county phone system is USELESS!!

•Yes, it worked for me! I got a call back from a real worker in about 40 minutes. So much better than sitting on hold all day.

UPDATE: Just checked my EBT card again and the extra supplement just posted! It was $90 for my household (me + 2 kids). So looks like they ARE sending them out separately just like everyone said. Thanks for all the helpful info!

To answer the question about whether this is recurring: No, this January 2025 supplement is a one-time payment. It's part of the emergency food assistance measure passed in the last budget session to address rising food costs. It's separate from your regular CalFresh benefits and won't continue in future months unless there's new legislation. Also, for those who are confused about seeing their deposit history, you can request an EBT transaction history either through the BenefitsCal portal or by calling the EBT customer service line and requesting a mailed statement. This will show exactly when deposits were made and in what amounts.

•That makes sense. I appreciate everyone's help on this! I'll definitely check the BenefitsCal portal for my transaction history.
