What is 'Continuing Team 24' on my CalFresh letter? New caseworker confusion

I just got this weird letter from my county office saying 'Continuing Team 24' is now handling my CalFresh case? Never heard of this before and I'm freaking out a little. Does this mean my benefits are changing or getting reviewed or something? I've had the same caseworker (Sarah) for 2 years and now suddenly this 'team' thing? Anyone know what this means or if I need to do anything? My recertification isn't due until September so I'm confused why they're changing things now.

Same thing happened to me last month! I was with Team 12 and now I'm with Team 31. I think they're just reorganizing the caseloads cause too many workers quit

Did your benefits change at all after the switch? I'm worried they'll review my case and find some reason to cut me off.

The 'Continuing Team' refers to the unit that handles ongoing cases after initial eligibility is established. Team 24 is just their internal designation - it's a group of eligibility workers who manage existing cases rather than a single caseworker. This is actually pretty standard - most counties are moving to a team-based approach instead of individual caseworkers. Your benefits won't change just because your case moved teams, though you'll likely have a different person answering if you call with questions.

Thanks! That's a relief. The letter doesn't really explain anything, just says 'your case has been transferred to Continuing Team 24' with a general office phone number. So I don't need to do anything?

Nope, you don't need to do anything! Just keep that new contact number for when you need to reach them. Your next scheduled action would still be your recertification in September. Nothing about your benefits or reporting requirements changes with this team switch.

This happened to me after I submitted my SAR7 last year... they moved me from a caseworker to "team 18" and then NO ONE would return my calls when I had questions!!!! My paperwork kept getting "lost" and they cut my benefits saying I didn't submit verification I DEFINITELY sent in. Be careful and DOCUMENT EVERYTHING with these teams!!! They'll blame each other and nothing gets done!!!

Oh no, that sounds horrible! Did you ever get your benefits back? I'm going to start taking pictures of everything I send them just in case.

When my case got switched to a team instead of individual worker, I had so much trouble getting through on the phone! I'd call and wait for hours only to get disconnected or told to call back. I finally discovered Claimyr.com which got me through to a real person at my county CalFresh office in minutes. You can see how it works here: https://youtu.be/eZ19FHRETv8?si=_CXnXqNXbLl26WB8. It saved me so much stress trying to figure out what was happening with my case after the team switch. Might be worth keeping in your back pocket if you need to reach someone about your case.

It worked for me three different times now! Before I was literally taking time off work just to sit on hold for hours. Now I get through in like 10 minutes usually.

The county offices have been restructuring since early 2025 because of their new case management system. With the teams, instead of having one dedicated worker, you have a group that's cross-trained on all cases in their assignment. The benefit is supposed to be that you can get help even if one particular person is out sick or on vacation. I work with CalFresh recipients in my job, and I've noticed that some teams are better organized than others. Team 24 in particular has been pretty responsive in my experience. Just make sure when you call or submit anything, you note your case number AND Team 24 on all communications.

Thank you for this info! That's good to hear about Team 24. Will definitely add the team number to everything I send in from now on. Do you know if there's a direct number to reach Team 24 specifically? The letter only has the main office number.

Unfortunately, most teams don't have direct lines anymore - they work through the centralized call system. But when you call, immediately tell them you're with Team 24 and they should route you correctly. Also, put "ATTN: Team 24" on the first line of any documents you submit, whether by mail, fax, or uploaded online. That helps route things faster in their system.

Btw did ur letter say anything about ur income reporting threshold??? When they switched me teams they changed my IRT from $3700 to $4250 without explanation. Wondering if its related

No, mine didn't mention anything about IRT changes. I'm going to double-check the letter again though, maybe I missed something.

The IRT (Income Reporting Threshold) changes when the state updates its income guidelines, which usually happens annually. The team change and IRT change happening at the same time was just a coincidence. The 2025 income limits increased about 15% from last year, which explains the increase from $3700 to $4250.

Update: I called the number on my letter today and actually got through after only waiting 20 minutes! The person confirmed it's just an internal reorganization and my benefits and certification period aren't changing. They also gave me an email address specific to Team 24 that wasn't on the letter: team24.calfresh@countydss.gov (sharing in case it helps someone else). Thanks everyone for the help and advice!

That's fantastic! And thank you for sharing the email - that's actually really useful information. Email addresses for specific teams aren't usually published, so that's a great resource. Just remember that sensitive personal information shouldn't be sent by regular email, but you can use it for general questions and follow-ups.

Save that email!!! And always email so you have a record they cant deny later!!!!

Just wanted to add - if you're worried about the transition, you can also request a case summary or status letter from Team 24 once they're fully handling your case. This will show your current benefit amount, certification period, and any pending actions. It's free and gives you peace of mind that everything transferred correctly. I always do this when there's any kind of change to my case, even if it's just administrative. Better to have documentation showing everything is still on track!
