P-EBT phone number for 2-year-old's missing CalFresh benefits?

Does anyone know the direct phone number for P-EBT questions? My 2-year-old hasn't received his benefits for the last 2 months. I've called the regular EBT customer service line but they just keep transferring me around saying P-EBT is handled separately. My other kids got their regular CalFresh benefits loaded on time but my toddler's P-EBT card shows nothing since April. The daycare confirmed he's still enrolled in their meal program so I don't understand why the benefits stopped. Starting to get frustrated because formula and baby food prices are ridiculous right now!

The official P-EBT customer service number is 877-328-9677. They're open Monday-Friday from 8am-8pm. Just be prepared to wait - I had to call about my daughter's missing benefits last month and was on hold for over 45 minutes. Make sure you have his P-EBT card number ready and any letters you received about his eligibility. For 2-year-olds, they're usually checking daycare enrollment status quarterly, so there might have been a verification issue.

Thank you!!! I'll try calling tomorrow morning. Did they eventually fix your daughter's benefits? I'm worried they'll say we need to reapply or something.

P-EBT is diffrent from regular calfresh!! You need to call the special P-ebt line not the normal EBT number. My kids had same problem last yr

Yes, that's what I'm trying to figure out - the special P-EBT number. Regular CalFresh customer service keeps transferring me around in circles.

The whole P-EBT system is a JOKE!!! I've called that number like 12 times for my kids and NEVER get through to a real person. They'll make you wait for HOURS then disconnect you. And if you somehow get through, they'll just tell you to "wait for a letter in the mail" that NEVER COMES. My kids missed 3 months of benefits before it randomly started working again with NO EXPLANATION. The system is DESIGNED to make you give up!!

This happened to me too! They kept saying a letter was coming but nothing ever came. Finally my sister told me to just call my daycare provider directly because sometimes they forgot to submit the attendance reports that trigger the P-EBT benefits.

I've had a lot of success using Claimyr to get through to P-EBT customer service. It's a service that basically waits on hold for you and calls you back when there's a real person on the line. Saved me hours of hold time when my son's P-EBT card wasn't working. You can see how it works at https://youtu.be/eZ19FHRETv8?si=_CXnXqNXbLl26WB8 and sign up at claimyr.com. I was skeptical at first but it really does work for getting through to P-EBT reps way faster.

I've never heard of this before! Does it actually work with the P-EBT line specifically? I'm willing to try anything at this point. Did they help resolve your issue?

Yes, it worked specifically with the P-EBT line. They connected me in about 25 minutes when I had been trying for days. The rep was able to see that my son's school verification hadn't processed correctly and fixed it while I was on the phone. Benefits showed up within 3 days.

Just to clarify some information here: P-EBT for young children (under 6) works differently than school-age P-EBT. For 2-year-olds, eligibility is based on: 1. Your household receiving CalFresh benefits 2. Child's enrollment in qualifying daycare/early education program 3. The daycare/center participating in federal food programs The most common reason for interruption is either changed daycare attendance or a lapse in your main CalFresh benefits that may not have been noticed. When you call 877-328-9677, ask specifically for the "Young Child P-EBT department" as they handle cases for children under 6 differently. Also, request a benefit status review rather than just asking about the missing months. This will trigger them to check the entire eligibility record rather than just looking at payment status.

This is super helpful! I didn't realize they had a separate department for young children. Our main CalFresh benefits have been consistent (just did our SAR7 in March) but his daycare did close for a week in April for renovations. Could that have affected things?

Yes, that week-long closure could definitely be the issue! For young child P-EBT, they look at attendance records, and some centers report even brief closures as disenrollment instead of temporary absence. When you call, specifically mention the closure and ask if that was coded correctly. They should be able to adjust it as a temporary absence rather than a program discontinuation.

my niece had the same thing happen and it turned out her birthday made her switch categories or something?? like once they turn 2 they count differently than the babies or something. did your kid have a birthday recently?

Update: I finally got through to someone at P-EBT! The daycare had actually reported him absent for the whole month of April because of a system error on their end (even though he only missed that one week). The P-EBT worker put in a correction and said benefits for both missing months should be loaded within 10 business days. They're also sending me a letter confirming everything. Thanks everyone for your help!

Great news! Make sure to save that letter in case there are any issues with the retroactive benefits being loaded. And set a calendar reminder to check his P-EBT balance in exactly 10 business days - if it's not there, call back right away using the reference number from the letter.

That's EXACTLY what happened with my kid too! The daycare's system marked her absent for weeks she was there. These programs need to communicate better!!! Glad you got it fixed.
