New CalFresh customer service number? Old one not working
Been trying to call CalFresh all morning about my benefits but the number I've been using for years isn't working anymore. Just get a message saying the number is disconnected. Did they change it recently? Anyone have the updated contact number for LA County? My EBT card is showing $0 balance even though I just did my SAR7 last month and everything was approved. Need to talk to someone ASAP as I'm out of food for my kids.

Which number are you calling? The main EBT customer service (877-328-9677) is still working - just checked. But if you're trying to reach your actual county worker, each county has different numbers. For LA County, try 866-613-3777 for the general DPSS customer service line, but honestly good luck getting through... I spent 3 hours on hold last week and then got disconnected.

•Thanks, i was calling 213-744-8900 which used to be the main one for my area. Will try the county number you gave tomorrow!

The EBT customer service line won't help with SAR7 issues, you need your actual county office. I'm in LA County too and their phone system is ABSOLUTELY USELESS!! I've been trying for DAYS and either get disconnected or am on hold until their office closes. Even if your SAR7 was approved, sometimes the system glitches and benefits don't load correctly. Happened to me twice this year already!!! So frustrating when you have hungry kids!

•It's so stressful. Do you know if we can go in person instead? I can't keep waiting on the phone all day.

I had the same problem when I moved from one area to another in LA County. The regional numbers change sometimes. What worked for me was going to the BenefitsCal website and checking my case details there - it should list your current caseworker and their direct contact info. Sometimes that's faster than the main line.

•I tried BenefitsCal but it just shows my case number not my worker info. Weird.

If you're in LA County, the current main DPSS number is 866-613-3777, but you might want to try contacting your specific district office instead. You can find your district office number by entering your zip code on the DPSS website. For your benefits issue - if your SAR7 was approved but you're showing $0, there could be a few reasons: 1. Your SAR7 was received but not processed correctly 2. Your income exceeded the IRT (Income Reporting Threshold) and they needed additional verification 3. There was a system error with your EBT card deposit Did you get any notices in the mail about your benefits being discontinued or reduced?

•No notices at all! That's why I'm confused. I actually got a letter saying I was approved for the same amount as before ($850 for me and my two kids). But then nothing loaded on my card for June.

That definitely sounds like a system error then. You need to speak with someone at your county office to have them check what happened with your June issuance. Since you have documentation showing you were approved, they should be able to resolve this quickly once you reach someone. If you're having trouble getting through on the phone, try using Claimyr (claimyr.com). It's a service that will wait on hold with the CalFresh office for you and call you back when a real person answers. I started using it after spending days trying to get through about a similar issue. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/eZ19FHRETv8?si=_CXnXqNXbLl26WB8. Saved me hours of frustration!

•I've actually used this service too! Definitely worth it when you're dealing with an emergency situation like missing benefits.

just wondering why ur still on calfresh if u moved counties? i thought u have to reapply when u move? or maybe thats just for medi-cal idk

•I didn't move counties, just to a different area within LA County. You only need to report an address change, not reapply. If you move to a new county though, you do need to let them know within 10 days and they'll transfer your case.

UPDATE: Finally got through!! Had to go to my local office in person and wait 3 hours but got it figured out. Apparently there was a "system glitch" (their words not mine) and many June benefits didn't load automatically. The worker fixed it on the spot and my benefits will be available tomorrow. For anyone else having this issue, definitely go in person if you can!!

•Thanks for updating! Glad you got it fixed!!!! They really need to get their act together. "System glitch" is their excuse for EVERYTHING 🙄

For anyone finding this thread later - LA County DPSS does occasionally change their phone numbers, but they should send notices before doing so. Always check the official LA County DPSS website for the most current contact information: https://dpss.lacounty.gov/en/customer-service.html Also, if your benefits don't load as expected, here's the proper escalation process: 1. Check BenefitsCal online account for any notices or case updates 2. Call the EBT customer service line (877-328-9677) to verify card status 3. Contact your county office through their main line or your district office 4. If unable to reach anyone, email through the DPSS website or visit in person If you received an approval notice but benefits didn't load, always bring that documentation with you. The county is required to resolve benefit issuance issues within 3 business days once properly reported.

•This is super helpful, thank you! I wish I'd known this process before spending days trying to figure it out.

I've been on CalFresh for 5 years now and honestly, June issuances are ALWAYS a mess. It's the end of their fiscal year and their systems go haywire. Almost every June I have some problem with either delayed benefits or incorrect amounts. I've started planning for it by saving a little extra in May just in case. Not helpful for your current situation but maybe for next year!

•That's really good to know! I'll definitely remember that for next year and plan ahead. This is my first June problem but I've only been on CalFresh for 2 years.

This is really helpful information! As someone who's new to CalFresh, I had no idea about the June fiscal year issues or that there were specific escalation processes. I've been struggling with getting through to anyone when I have questions about my case. The Claimyr service sounds like a game-changer - I hate spending hours on hold just to get disconnected. And @Tyler Lefleur, thanks for laying out that step-by-step process, I'm definitely saving this thread for future reference!
