Missing January P-EBT benefits - card shows $0 after holidays?
Hey everyone, I'm really confused and starting to worry. I checked my P-EBT card yesterday (Jan 12) and there's absolutely nothing on there for January. My kids (7 and 9) definitely qualify for the school lunch program, and we've been getting the P-EBT benefits consistently until now. I was counting on this month's benefits for groceries since I'm between jobs right now. The December payment loaded right after Christmas, but January is just showing $0. Is anyone else experiencing this? Do the January benefits come later in the month? I tried calling the county office yesterday but got stuck in that horrible automated system for 40 minutes before I had to pick my kids up from school. Any advice would be really appreciated!!

•At least I'm not alone! Have you tried calling yet? I'm going to try again tomorrow morning when they open.

The P-EBT benefits for January 2025 were delayed due to the holiday processing schedule. County offices just started reloading the cards this week, but it's happening in batches based on case numbers. Some people won't see their benefits until Jan 18-20. If you don't see anything by next Monday, that's when you should definitely call the county to check on your specific case.

•Thank you so much for explaining! That makes me feel better. I'll wait until Monday before I start panicking again. Really appreciate the info!

•I totally understand the frustration. For future reference, you can sign up for text alerts about P-EBT deposits and delays through the BenefitsCal portal. They're actually pretty good about sending updates once you're enrolled in notifications.

I work with a nonprofit that assists families with benefits, and we've been getting a lot of calls about this same issue. As mentioned above, there's definitely a delay in the January P-EBT distribution. But I want to clarify something important - P-EBT and CalFresh are processed by different systems. If you need to call about your P-EBT specifically, you should use the P-EBT customer service line (877-328-9677) rather than the regular county CalFresh line. But fair warning - the P-EBT line has been absolutely swamped this week with everyone calling about the same issue. If you can wait until next week as suggested, that's probably your best bet.

•Thank you for explaining the difference! I always get confused about which number to call for what. I'll try the P-EBT line next week if my benefits don't show up.

I had this EXACT problem last month!! They didnt load my P-EBT until after Christmas even though it was supposed to come on the 10th! I spent HOURS trying to get through on that stupid P-EBT hotline and it kept disconnecting me. I finally used Claimyr (claimyr.com) to get through to an actual human being who confirmed there was a system delay. Saved me so much time and frustration - they have this video that shows how it works: https://youtu.be/eZ19FHRETv8?si=_CXnXqNXbLl26WB8 Anyway the rep told me there's often delays around holidays because of staff shortages. My January payment just loaded yesterday, so they're definitely coming through, just on a weird schedule.

•Yeah, it worked for me! Better than spending all day trying to get through. The county phone systems are the absolute worst.

My daughter's friend works for the county eligibility office, and she mentioned they've been having issues with the new P-EBT system rollout. Apparently the holiday season caused some data transfer delays between the school district verification system and the state distribution system. The good news is that nobody is actually losing benefits - they're just delayed until the system catches up. If your kids are definitely enrolled in free/reduced lunch at school, you WILL get your P-EBT benefits, just a bit later than usual. One thing to be aware of - if your kids changed schools after the fall semester, that might cause an additional delay since the systems need to reconcile enrollment changes. In that case, you might need to call.

•That's so helpful to know! My kids are at the same school, so hopefully that's not causing any extra delays. Thanks for the insider info!

•Great news! Glad it worked out. The system may have its flaws, but at least the benefits do come through eventually.
