Missing CalFresh extra benefits for April - EBT card empty with nothing to feed family tomorrow

I was supposed to get my extra CalFresh benefits loaded onto my EBT card yesterday (it usually comes around the 10th of each month), but nothing showed up. My regular benefits ran out last week, and I have literally nothing to feed my family tomorrow. I'm a single mom with 3 kids and we're completely out of food. I checked BenefitsCal and it shows my case is active, but no pending deposits. Is anyone else missing their April benefits? The automated phone line just says my balance is $0. I can't get through to a real person at the county office - been trying all day. Do emergency benefits exist? What am I supposed to do when my kids wake up hungry tomorrow?

You're right - I meant my regular benefits. They always come on the 10th for me (last digit of my case is 0). I've never had them not show up before. I checked my transaction history and they've been deposited on the 10th every month since I started receiving CalFresh last year.

Call the EBT customer service number (not the county office) and ask if there's an issue with your card. Sometimes there are technical problems with the system. If your card is damaged or not working properly, they can issue a replacement. Also, double check that your semi-annual report (SAR7) wasn't due recently - if you missed submitting it, your benefits could have been suspended.

I tried calling the EBT number too but couldn't get through to anyone - just the automated system. I did submit my SAR7 last month and got a confirmation letter saying everything was approved for continued benefits. That's why I'm so confused and worried.

I checked all my mail for the past 2 weeks and haven't received anything from them. I'm going to check my BenefitsCal messages again right now to see if there's anything I missed there.

Unfortunately, I've been in this exact situation. CalFresh county offices are impossible to reach by phone when you're in crisis. I spent 3 days trying to reach someone when my benefits didn't load. I finally used Claimyr (claimyr.com) and got through to a real person in 20 minutes. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/eZ19FHRETv8?si=_CXnXqNXbLl26WB8. The worker discovered there was a system glitch affecting several accounts including mine, and they fixed it while I was on the phone. For your immediate need, call 211 and ask about emergency food pantries in your area - many can provide same-day groceries.

Thank you for this! I'll try Claimyr first thing tomorrow morning. And I didn't think about 211 - just called them and they gave me 3 food pantries that are open tomorrow morning. At least my kids won't go hungry while I sort this out.

THEY DO THIS ON PURPOSE!!! The system is designed to make us give up. I've had my benefits \

While I understand your frustration, expedited service is only for new applications when someone meets the criteria. For existing cases with benefit delivery issues, there's unfortunately no 3-day requirement. However, the county does have an obligation to resolve benefit delivery issues promptly, and they can issue benefits outside the normal cycle when there's an administrative error.

this happened 2 me last month! turned out my EBT card expired lol. check the date on ur card, they send new ones automatically but sometimes they get lost in mail. if thats it u can get a temp card same day if u go in person to the county office.

Just checked and my card doesn't expire until 2026, so that's not it. But thanks for the suggestion! I'm going to try calling first thing tomorrow and if I can't get through I'll drive to the office in person.

Based on what you've described, here are the most likely explanations:\n\n1. System delay - Sometimes benefits are delayed by 1-2 business days due to processing issues\n2. Unreported change - The system may have flagged something requiring verification\n3. Income reporting threshold (IRT) - If your income exceeded your IRT without reporting it, benefits could be suspended\n\nIf you had verification requests or notices about exceeding your IRT, you might need to provide documentation to restore benefits. For immediate food assistance, contact local food banks or call 211 as mentioned above. For tomorrow, bring your ID and EBT card to the county office in person - they can often resolve issues same-day for households with no food.

I haven't had any income changes since I last reported, but the system delay seems possible. I'll definitely go in person tomorrow if the phone doesn't work. Thank you for breaking down the possibilities.

Good news! I just checked my EBT balance and my benefits finally loaded tonight - about 12 hours late. Maybe check yours again? There might have been a system-wide delay affecting multiple accounts today.

OMG just checked and mine loaded too!! Thank you all so much for your help and suggestions. What a relief! I was literally in tears thinking about tomorrow. Now I can go grocery shopping first thing in the morning. I'm still going to try calling them to find out what happened so I don't panic next time.
