CalFresh discontinued - no SAR 7 notification received. Help!
My calfresh benefits got discontinued because I didn't submit the SAR 7 form. I didn't even know I had to do it because I never got any mail about it. Now I'm stuck without benefits and don't know what to do. Has anyone else dealt with this? Any advice on how to get my benefits back?

Ugh, that sucks! The same thing happened to me last year. It's so frustrating when they don't send proper notifications. Have you tried calling the CalFresh office to explain the situation?

•I've been trying to call all day but can't get through. It's like their phone lines are always busy or something 😤

•Yeah, getting through on the phone is a nightmare. Keep trying tho, sometimes early morning works better. Good luck!

This happens way too often. The system is broken af. They should have a better way of notifying people about important deadlines. Have you tried going to the office in person? Sometimes that's faster than calling.

I found a way to actually get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's the link: https://claimyr.com

•Sounds sketchy. Is it legit? $20 seems like a lot just to make a phone call.

•I get the skepticism, but it's totally legit. I was desperate after trying for days and it actually worked. Saved me hours of hold time.

•How long did it take for them to call you back?

•It took about 2 hours, but I just went about my day and they called when an agent was ready. Way better than being stuck on hold myself.

Here's what you need to do: 1. Request a replacement SAR 7 form ASAP. You can usually do this online or by calling your county office. 2. Fill out the form completely and submit it as soon as possible. 3. Ask for a 'good cause' reinstatement. Explain that you never received the notification. 4. If they deny your request, file for a fair hearing. You usually have 90 days from the date of the discontinuance notice to do this. 5. In the meantime, reapply for CalFresh. You might be able to get benefits while waiting for the hearing. Remember, persistence is key. Don't give up! The system can be frustrating, but keep pushing until you get your benefits back.

•This is solid advice. I'd add: document EVERYTHING. Every call, every letter, every interaction. It can help if you need to appeal.

•Preach! 🙌 It's like they make it hard on purpose to discourage people from getting help.

Pro tip: Set reminders on your phone for these deadlines. I learned the hard way too, now I have alerts set up for everything related to my benefits.

•That's actually a really good idea. I'm definitely gonna do that from now on. Thanks!

Have you checked your spam folder? Sometimes important emails end up there. Also, make sure they have your correct mailing address on file.

This is why I always tell people to sign up for online accounts and paperless notifications if possible. It's way more reliable than snail mail.

•Not everyone has reliable internet access tho. The system should work for everyone, online or not.

•Fair point. I guess there's no perfect solution. They really need to improve communication across the board.

Oof, been there done that. It's a pain to get back on track but don't give up! Once you get through to someone, ask about expedited benefits if you're in a tough spot. Hang in there! 💪

Check if your county has a CalFresh hotline or chat feature on their website - sometimes those are faster than the main phone line. Also, when you do get through, ask them to note in your case that you never received the SAR 7 notice. Some counties have policies for "good cause" exceptions when notifications aren't received. Don't let them brush you off - you have rights as a recipient!
