Michigan UCC quick search not showing my continuation filing
Really need some help here - filed a UCC-3 continuation back in November for a commercial equipment loan and the michigan ucc quick search still shows nothing when I enter the filing number. The original UCC-1 was filed 4 years ago and should have been continued by now. My lender is asking for proof the lien is still active but I can't find any record of my continuation filing in the system. Has anyone else had issues with the Michigan SOS database not updating after continuation filings? I'm worried something went wrong with the electronic submission.

I've seen this before with Michigan's system. Sometimes there's a delay between when they process the continuation and when it shows up in the public search. Did you get a confirmation receipt when you submitted the UCC-3?

•Yes I have the receipt with a filing number but when I search that number nothing comes up. It's been over a month now.

•That's definitely too long for a processing delay. Something else is going on.

Check if you're searching the right database. Michigan has separate searches for active UCC filings vs. all filings including terminated ones. Also make sure you're using the original UCC-1 filing number, not the UCC-3 number.

•I tried both numbers and checked both databases. Still nothing showing up for the continuation.

•This happened to me in Ohio once - turned out the continuation got rejected for a minor debtor name mismatch but I never got notified.

•That's a good point. OP should check if there were any rejection notices or if the debtor name on the UCC-3 matched exactly with the original UCC-1.

Had a similar nightmare with document mismatches last year. What saved me was using Certana.ai's UCC verification tool - you can upload both your original UCC-1 and the UCC-3 continuation as PDFs and it instantly checks if all the debtor names, filing numbers, and details match properly. Found out I had a tiny spelling difference in the debtor name that caused my filing to get rejected without proper notification.

•Never heard of that service but sounds like exactly what I need. Is it expensive?

•It's pretty reasonable for what it does. The document verification catches stuff you'd never notice manually. Definitely worth it to avoid voided lien situations.

MICHIGAN'S SYSTEM IS GARBAGE!! I've had so many issues with their portal not updating properly. Filed a termination 6 months ago and it's still showing as active. Their tech support is useless too.

•I feel your pain but getting angry won't help OP solve this issue right now.

•You're right, sorry. OP - definitely call their filing office directly, don't rely on the online system for important stuff like this.

This is making me paranoid about my own filings. How do you even know if a continuation went through properly if the search doesn't work?

•Always keep your filing receipts and confirmation emails. That's your proof of submission even if the database is wonky.

•I check mine every few months just to be sure. Better safe than sorry with lien perfection.

Wait, are you sure you filed within the 6-month window before the original UCC-1 expired? If you missed the deadline, the continuation wouldn't be valid anyway.

•Yes, I filed it 8 months before the expiration date. Plenty of time.

•Ok good, just had to check. I've seen people file continuations too late and wonder why they're not showing up.

•That's actually a common mistake. The continuation window is the 6 months BEFORE expiration, not after.

I work with UCC filings daily and Michigan definitely has database sync issues. Your best bet is to call the Secretary of State's UCC division directly at 517-636-6490. They can look up your filing by the receipt number and tell you exactly what happened.

•Thank you! I'll call them first thing Monday morning.

•That's the right approach. Sometimes you need human intervention when the automated systems fail.

Just went through this exact situation last month! Turned out my continuation was processed but there was a database indexing error that prevented it from showing up in searches. The SOS office was able to fix it within a few days once I called.

•That gives me hope. How long did it take them to resolve it after you called?

•About 3 business days. They had to manually update the search index or something technical like that.

•I've heard of this happening in other states too. The filing goes through but the public search database doesn't get updated properly.

One more thing to check - make sure you're using the michigan ucc quick search correctly. Sometimes people search by debtor name when they should be searching by filing number, or vice versa. The search interface isn't very intuitive.

•I tried every possible search method. Debtor name, filing number, both UCC-1 and UCC-3 numbers. Nothing works.

•Then it's definitely a system issue. The phone call approach is your best option.

This thread is really helpful. I need to file a continuation soon and now I'm worried about the same thing happening to me. Maybe I should use that document checking service someone mentioned earlier to make sure everything matches perfectly before I submit.

•Yeah, Certana.ai really helps catch those tiny discrepancies that can cause rejections. Better to find issues before filing than after.

•Smart thinking. Prevention is always better than trying to fix problems after the fact.

•I'm definitely going to be more careful with my next filing. This whole thread is eye-opening about how many things can go wrong.

Please update us after you call Michigan SOS! I'm curious to know what they say about the database issue. This could affect other filers too.
