No email received after FAFSA parent portion completed - how to get student access?

I'm freaking out a bit here. I finally got my FSA ID set up as a parent last week and completed my portion of my daughter's 2025-2026 FAFSA application. The confirmation screen said she would receive an email with instructions to complete her part, but it's been almost a week and nothing has shown up in her inbox. We've checked spam folders too. Her October 1st scholarship deadline is approaching fast and I'm getting nervous. Has anyone else experienced this email delay? Is there another way for her to access the application without waiting for this mysterious email? I'm worried the system glitched and the application is just sitting there incomplete.

the emails don't always come thru. have ur daughter log into studentaid.gov with her FSA ID and the application should be waiting for her there. she doesn't need the email

Thank you! I'll have her try that tonight. Wish the system had made that clearer instead of making it sound like the email was necessary.

This happens quite frequently with the new FAFSA system. The confirmation screen can be misleading. Your daughter doesn't actually need an email to continue her portion of the application. She should log into studentaid.gov with her own FSA ID, and on her dashboard, she'll see the application waiting for her under "FAFSA Form." Make sure she has all her tax information (W-2s, etc.) ready before starting, as the student portion asks about their income separately from parent contributions. Also double-check that she's using the correct FSA ID credentials - one common issue is students trying to use their parent's login information.

this happened to me too! i waited for 2 weeks for an email until my financial aid advisor told me i could just log in. super confusing!

My son had this same issue but turns out I had his email wrong when I set everything up 🤦‍♀️ Double check the contact info you entered. But like others said he can just login with his FSA ID without needing any email.

I work in a college financial aid office and we're seeing this issue a lot this year. The FAFSA doesn't require the email notification for the student to continue - it's just a courtesy reminder that doesn't always work properly. Here's what your daughter needs to do: 1. Log into studentaid.gov using HER FSA ID (not yours) 2. From her dashboard, click on "FAFSA Form" 3. She should see the in-progress application you started 4. She can complete her portion directly from there If for some reason she doesn't see the application, it's possible there was an issue with how the student/parent relationship was established. In that case, you may need to contact Federal Student Aid directly for assistance. Their phone lines are extremely busy right now, so I recommend using Claimyr (claimyr.com) to get through faster. They have a service that helps you bypass the wait times. I've been recommending it to students facing urgent deadlines. You can see how it works here: https://youtu.be/TbC8dZQWYNQ

OMG this FAFSA is SUCH a nightmare this year!!! Why would they make something THIS IMPORTANT so confusing?! My daughter's application has been stuck for 3 weeks because we couldn't figure out why she wasn't getting the stupid email either. The whole system is broken! But thanks for explaining this!

UPDATE: Success! My daughter logged in with her FSA ID and found the application waiting there. She's working on her portion now. Thanks everyone for your help! I wish the confirmation screen had just told us to do this instead of making us wait for an email that never came.

Glad to hear it worked out! Just a heads-up on what comes next - after your daughter completes her portion, you'll both need to electronically sign the application. Once submitted, you should receive your Student Aid Index (SAI) calculation within 3-5 business days. This replaces the old Expected Family Contribution (EFC) number. Make sure to check the SAI once it arrives, as this is what colleges will use to determine aid packages.

You'll need to log back in to check your SAI - I don't recall getting an email notification for that either. Another tip: once your SAI is calculated, download and save the PDF of your Student Aid Report (SAR). Some scholarship applications require this document as proof of FAFSA completion, especially for those October deadlines you mentioned.

my dad n i had the same issue last month! the new FAFSA is soooo confusing compared to the old one! also make sure ur daughter does the signature part at the end - we missed that and had to wait another week b4 our application was processed

I'm so glad I found this thread! I'm a new parent going through this process for the first time and was panicking when my son didn't get the email either. It's really frustrating that the FAFSA system makes it seem like the email is required when it's not. For other parents who might be reading this - definitely have your student log in directly with their FSA ID rather than waiting around for emails that may never come. The deadline stress is real! Thanks to everyone who shared their experiences here.
