FAFSA parent contribution invite not coming through - tried twice!
My daughter has sent me the FAFSA parent contribution invite twice in the past week, but I haven't received anything in my email (checked spam too). She's getting frustrated because her financial aid package is on hold until I complete my part. The deadline for priority consideration at her school is coming up in 10 days. Has anyone else had issues with these parent invites not showing up? Is there something else we should be trying? Her SAI calculation can't be completed without my information and I'm starting to worry this will affect her aid package.

Are you sure she's using the correct email address for you? My son had this same problem and turns out he was using my old work email that I haven't checked in years. Also check if your email has any filters that might be blocking studentaid.gov messages.

•Yes, I'm positive she has the right email. She even showed me her screen where she entered it. I've triple-checked my spam folder and even created a filter to make sure nothing from studentaid.gov gets blocked. Still nothing!

This happens more often than you'd think! Here are a few things to check: 1. Make sure your daughter created a contributor invitation (not just listing you as a parent) 2. Verify she's using the EXACT spelling of your email 3. Some email providers (especially Yahoo and Hotmail) have been blocking FAFSA emails lately 4. Try having her generate a new invitation with a different email address if you have one 5. Check if your daughter's FSA ID is fully verified - sometimes invites won't send if there are verification issues If none of those work, you may need to call Federal Student Aid directly.

•Thank you! I'll try having her send it to my work email instead. I do use Yahoo for my personal email, so maybe that's the issue. Her FSA ID should be verified - she's been able to complete everything else on her end.

my daughter had THE SAME PROBLEM!! it was sooooo frustrating. turned out my phone number was wrong in the system and they were trying to text a verification code to complete the invitation or something? maybe check that too

•Oh interesting! I'll ask her if she put in my phone number correctly too. This whole system seems unnecessarily complicated...

There's actually a workaround for this. Your daughter can print out the parent contribution form (PDF version) and you can fill it out manually. Then she can upload the scanned document to her FAFSA portal under "additional documentation." It's not the preferred method, but financial aid offices will usually accept it if you're having technical issues with the electronic invitation. Just make sure you include a brief explanation letter.

•This is actually not correct information. FAFSA doesn't allow paper submissions anymore for the 2025-2026 application. Everything has to be done through the electronic system now. Bad advice like this is why people get confused!

I had to deal with this EXACT issue last month! Spent 3 days trying to figure it out and nothing worked. Finally used Claimyr to get through to an actual FAFSA agent (after trying to call normally for hours and getting disconnected). The agent was able to manually send the invitation while I was on the phone with them, and it showed up immediately. Saved us so much stress because we were up against a scholarship deadline. You can see how it works here: https://youtu.be/TbC8dZQWYNQ and the website is claimyr.com - totally worth it to actually talk to someone who could fix it!

•Thank you! I've been trying to call FSA directly and keep getting disconnected after 40+ minutes on hold. I'll check this out - at this point I just need to get this resolved before the priority deadline passes.

•Is this service legit? seems sketchy to pay just to talk to a govt agency...

•It's just a callback service - they don't do anything with your FAFSA info or account. They just get you in the phone queue and call you when an agent is available so you don't have to stay on hold forever. Saved me hours of frustration.

One other thing to check - make sure your daughter fully submitted her initial FAFSA application. The system won't send parent invites if she's still in the draft stage or if there are errors on her portion that need to be fixed first. This was a common issue during the rollout of the new FAFSA system.

•She says she did submit it fully, and her student portion shows as "completed" in the portal. The only thing holding up her SAI calculation is my parent information.

If you need a more immediate solution while working through the technical issues, contact your daughter's school's financial aid office directly. Explain the situation and ask if they can provide a temporary placeholder for her SAI calculation or extension on the priority deadline. Many schools have workarounds for FAFSA technical issues since they've been so common with the new system. They might be able to use estimated figures until you can properly complete the parent contribution.

•That's a good idea! I'll have her contact the financial aid office tomorrow morning. Thanks for the suggestion!

•Yes! We finally resolved it. Turned out it was two problems combined - I use Yahoo email (which was blocking the messages) AND my daughter had entered my phone number with a typo so the text verification wasn't coming through either. We used that Claimyr service someone mentioned above to actually get through to FSA, and they fixed it while we were on the phone. Got the invitation immediately after that and completed my portion. Her SAI calculation came through 2 days later.

why is the system so BROKEN every single year?? 🤬 my daughter had to apply for loans instead of grants because the fafsa wasn't processed in time last year. the whole system is designed to fail i swear

•Last year was especially bad with the completely redesigned system. My son applied in October and didn't get his SAI until February! But they did eventually process everything and adjusted his aid package retroactively. Did your daughter follow up with her financial aid office? They can often make adjustments even after initial awards.
