FAFSA website glitch won't accept spouse's birth date - cursor jumps everywhere

Is anyone else having technical issues with the 2025-2026 FAFSA form? I'm going crazy trying to complete the contributor section. Every time I try to enter my husband's date of birth, the cursor jumps randomly around the page and won't let me complete the field. I've tried using Chrome, Firefox, and even Edge browsers but nothing works! I've been at this for 3 hours and can't get past this section. My SAI calculation is stuck because of this stupid technical glitch. Anyone found a workaround for the birth date fields?

Did you find any solution? I'm getting desperate because my school's priority deadline is coming up.

I experienced this issue while helping several students last week. It seems to be related to the auto-formatting in the date fields. Try these workarounds: 1. Use the TAB key instead of mouse clicking between fields 2. Enter the date as MMDDYYYY with no slashes or dashes 3. Try using the calendar picker icon instead of typing 4. Clear your browser cache completely (not just cookies) 5. If possible, try using a desktop computer instead of mobile The FSA also released a statement acknowledging some technical difficulties with the contributor sections in the new FAFSA format. They're working on fixes, but no ETA yet.

Thank you so much! I'll try these right away. The TAB key method sounds promising since I've been clicking between fields.

Same. At this point I wonder if it's even worth it. Is a degree really worth dealing with this bureaucratic nightmare every single year???

The date field issue is happening because of a JavaScript conflict in the new FAFSA form. I work in IT at a university financial aid office, and we've been seeing this problem frequently. A more reliable fix than what's been suggested: 1. Try using an incognito/private browsing window 2. Disable all browser extensions completely 3. Use the keyboard exclusively (Tab between fields, Enter to select) 4. If all else fails, the mobile app version seems to handle the date fields better than the website The contributor section is particularly buggy in the new FAFSA system. If you get truly stuck, you might need to call Federal Student Aid directly to request technical assistance.

Thank you for these expert suggestions! I'll try incognito mode right now. I do have several Chrome extensions running that could be causing conflicts.

After dealing with similar issues and getting nowhere with the standard troubleshooting, I was about to give up on meeting my daughter's priority deadline. Tried calling FSA directly but kept getting disconnected after waiting forever. Finally used a service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that got me connected to a live FSA agent in about 15 minutes. They helped me complete the contributor section over the phone and manually noted my husband's information in our file. They also have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/TbC8dZQWYNQ Might be worth trying if the technical fixes don't work and you're up against a deadline!

I hadn't heard of this service before. That might be my next step if the incognito mode doesn't work. Did they ask for any specific info to help with your application over the phone?

Yes, make sure you have your FSA ID login, SSNs for you and your husband, and his birthdate ready. The agent was able to override the system issue and manually input his information. They'll also send you confirmation when it's processed.

This happened to me too! But the weird thing is that it only happened on my laptop. When I finally gave up and switched to my tablet, suddenly the date field worked perfectly fine. Might be worth trying a completely different device if possible.

not everyone has multiple devices tho??? so frustrating when the govt expects everyone to have all this tech just to apply for aid thats supposed to help poor students!!!

Speaking of FAFSA problems, has anyone else noticed that the new SAI calculation seems completely off? My family income actually decreased this year but somehow my SAI is $4,500 higher than last year's EFC. Makes no sense whatsoever.

That's because the new FAFSA uses a different formula entirely. The SAI isn't directly comparable to the old EFC. The income protection allowance changed, and they eliminated some deductions that were previously available. Many families are seeing significant differences, both higher and lower.

UPDATE: Success! The incognito mode + keyboard navigation suggestion worked perfectly! I was able to enter my husband's birthdate and complete the contributor section. For anyone else having this issue, here's exactly what worked: 1. Chrome incognito window (Ctrl+Shift+N) 2. Logged into studentaid.gov 3. Used only Tab key to navigate between fields 4. Entered the date as MM/DD/YYYY with the forward slashes Now I'm finally able to submit our FAFSA! Thank you all for the help!

Great news! Glad you got it working. Don't forget to take a screenshot of your confirmation page and save your SAI information when it processes.
