FAFSA form glitching when entering spouse's birth date - cursor jumps everywhere

Is anyone else having issues with the new FAFSA form when trying to enter spouse information? I'm trying to submit my 2025-2026 application and the website keeps glitching when I try to enter my husband's date of birth. The cursor jumps all over the place and won't let me complete the field. I've tried on Chrome, Edge, and even my phone but it's the same problem everywhere. This is so frustrating! I'm worried about missing deadlines since I can't even get past this section. Has anyone found a workaround?

omg same thing happened to me last week!! i thought it was just my crappy laptop lol. what worked for me was using the TAB key to get to that field instead of clicking on it directly. then type the date without trying to use the mouse at all. for some reason that fixed it

Thank you! I'll try that tonight. Did you have to format the date in any special way? Like MM/DD/YYYY or something else?

This is a known issue with the new FAFSA interface. Three things you can try: 1. Use keyboard navigation only (Tab key to move between fields) 2. Try entering the date in MM/DD/YYYY format WITHOUT the slashes 3. Clear your browser cache completely before attempting If none of those work, you might need to contact Federal Student Aid directly. The technical glitches this year have been worse than usual with the new simplified FAFSA rollout.

I've been helping students with the new FAFSA for months, and this specific spouse birth date bug has affected quite a few people. One additional trick: try using the calendar picker icon instead of typing the date manually. For some reason, the system handles it better when you select the date visually rather than typing it. Also, make sure you've completely logged out and back in before trying again - sometimes the session data gets corrupted.

Thanks for the advice! I tried the calendar picker actually and it still jumps around. I'll try the complete logout/login and see if that works.

Ugh! The FAFSA site is a NIGHTMARE this year!! I've had so many glitches trying to get my SAI score for my daughter. The birthdate thing was just one of like 50 problems. What finally worked for me was completely starting over with a NEW FSA ID and browser. Ridiculous we have to jump through these hoops just to apply for financial aid!!

I ran into this exact issue but found out it was actually related to my ad blocker! Disable any browser extensions, especially ad blockers or privacy tools, before trying again. For some reason they interfere with the form's JavaScript. After I turned off uBlock Origin, the cursor behaved normally.

That's so weird but makes sense! I do have AdBlock Plus installed. I'll try disabling it tonight, thanks for the suggestion!

Anyone know if this date of birth glitch affects your SAI calculation? My husband's birthdate kept glitching too, but I eventually got through the application. Now I'm paranoid the system recorded his info wrong and it'll mess up our aid amount.

Good question - if you managed to submit the form, you should verify the information is correct by viewing your Student Aid Report (SAR). The SAR will show all entered information, including your spouse's birth date. If anything is incorrect, you can submit a correction.

this new fafsa is the WORST. why did they have to change everything?? my parents cant even figure out how to link their tax info and now ur saying the birthdate fields dont work either??

The redesign aimed to simplify the process and expand eligibility, which is good in theory. But the implementation has been rocky. For your parents' tax link issues, make sure they're using the exact name as it appears on their tax return (including any middle initials). Case sensitivity matters too.

UPDATE: I got it working!! Combination of using keyboard navigation, disabling my ad blocker, AND clearing cache. Had to do all three for some reason. Thanks everyone for the suggestions! Now onto fighting with the tax information section...
