FAFSA submitted but no SAI score showing up in summary - normal wait time?

I finally got around to submitting my FAFSA application for 2025-2026 yesterday, and got the confirmation email saying it was received. I checked my account this morning and can see it shows as 'submitted' status, but there's no Student Aid Index (SAI) score in the summary page yet. For people who've already gone through this process, how long did it take for your summary to update with the SAI score? Should I be concerned that something's wrong with my application? This is my first time applying so I'm not sure what's normal. Thanks!

That makes me feel a bit better - at least I'm not alone! Are you planning to call them if it takes much longer?

Relax! It can take anywhere from 3-7 business days for your SAI score to appear in your summary. This is totally normal. The processing times depend on how many applications they're dealing with at once. Since we're in the busy application season for 2025-2026, expect it to be on the longer side.

It's definitely normal for the SAI to take some time to calculate and appear in your account summary. However, if you have any of these situations, it could take longer: - You submitted any corrections to your original FAFSA - You were selected for verification (which happens randomly to about 25% of applicants) - There were any tax information discrepancies they need to verify - You indicated special circumstances that require manual review If it's been more than 10 business days, I'd recommend contacting Federal Student Aid directly to inquire about your application status.

Thanks for the detailed information! I didn't have any special circumstances, but my parents are divorced so I had to report income from just one parent plus their spouse. Do you think that could cause delays?

That could potentially cause a delay, but usually not a significant one. The system is designed to handle various family structures. If you've correctly reported the required parent's information (the one you lived with most during the past 12 months, or who provided more financial support), it should still process normally.

I waited almost THREE WEEKS for my SAI to show up and later found out my application was flagged for verification because my dad's tax info didn't match exactly with what the IRS had. SUCH a headache!!!! They don't even tell you there's a problem until you call them. The whole system is ridiculous!!

Oh no! That sounds awful. How did you finally get it resolved?

Hours on the phone with them!!! I tried calling for DAYS and kept getting disconnected or stuck on hold forever. Finally got through and they explained what documents I needed to upload. So frustrating that they couldn't just email me that info!

After trying to reach someone at Federal Student Aid for days about my missing SAI score, I finally used Claimyr (claimyr.com) to get through to a real person. They helped me skip the ridiculous wait times and connected me directly to an agent who explained exactly why my application was stuck in processing. There's a demo video of how it works here: https://youtu.be/TbC8dZQWYNQ. Seriously saved me hours of frustration and finally got my application moving again!

Mine took exactly 5 business days to show the SAI score in my account summary. Don't forget that weekends don't count as processing days for FAFSA. Also, make sure you're actually looking in the right place - the SAI doesn't show up in the confirmation email, only in your online account under the "Financial Aid Review" section.

Thanks for the tip! I was looking in the right section (I think), but I'll double check. It's been 2 business days now, so maybe I'll see it by the end of the week.

i submitted mine three weeks ago and the SAI showed up after like 4 days. but then my school financial aid office sent me an email saying i got selected for verification and now everything is on hold until i upload like a million documents 🙄 so even after u get the SAI theres still more hoops to jump thru

This is an important point about the verification process. About 25% of FAFSA applications are randomly selected for verification, where you need to submit additional documents to confirm the information you provided. The timing varies by school, but it's a normal part of the process for many students.

That's great news! I'll keep checking mine. What was your SAI score if you don't mind sharing? I'm trying to get a sense of what to expect.

One thing nobody mentioned yet - after your SAI appears, the next step is for your FAFSA information to be sent to the schools you listed on your application. This usually happens automatically, but sometimes there can be delays in this step too. Once the schools receive your information, they'll use your SAI to determine your financial aid package. If it's been more than 2 weeks since you submitted your FAFSA and you still don't see an SAI, I would definitely contact Federal Student Aid to check if there's an issue they need to resolve. Better to address any problems early in the process!

Thank you everyone for all the helpful information! I'll wait one more week before I start to worry. It sounds like 5-7 business days is normal for the SAI to appear. I'll update once mine shows up!
