FAFSA signature loop error - daughter signed but system wants correction and new signature

I'm losing my mind with this FAFSA process! I FINALLY got the parent section signed yesterday after weeks of trying (the site kept timing out). Now the status shows that my daughter needs to

Same thing happened with my son's application! The system kept saying he needed to sign even though he already did. We ended up having to delete all the browser cookies/cache and have him log in on a completely different device. For some reason that fixed it. Try having your daughter log in using her phone if she was using a computer before (or vice versa).

Thanks, I'll have her try that tonight when she gets home from work. Did you have to wait for some kind of processing time after you both signed? The status page is so confusing this year!

We tried that initially but the site kept crashing during high volume hours. Ended up having to do it in pieces because of the technical problems.

This is a known issue with the 2025-2026 FAFSA signature process. What's happening is that the parent signature is properly registered in the system, but there's a delay in the system recognizing both signatures together. Here's how to fix it:\n\n1. Have your daughter log in to studentaid.gov\n2. Navigate to the FAFSA form (not just the dashboard)\n3. Go to the very last page of the form\n4. There should be a \

Thank you! This is really helpful. I'll have her try these exact steps. The instructions on the site are so vague about what's actually happening.

OMG the new FAFSA is THE WORST!!! I've been dealing with these exact issues for THREE applications (triplets). One got through fine, one had this signature loop problem, and one is stuck in verification hell. I'm about ready to give up on financial aid altogether! 😫

Triplets in college at once? Wow, you definitely deserve maximum financial aid! The system should just automatically approve you lol

Right?! You'd think it would be easier but instead it's 3x the headache! And each school has different priority deadlines too so I'm juggling all these different timelines!

I used to work in a financial aid office before the new FAFSA rolled out. This signature verification issue is because the 2025-2026 FAFSA now has a two-step signature verification process that wasn't clearly communicated to applicants. \n\nAfter both the parent and student have signed, there's an additional submission step required to reconcile both signatures. When you see the \

Thank you for explaining! I was wondering why this year seemed so much more complicated. If we can't get it fixed tonight using the steps above, I'll have to try calling them. Not looking forward to those wait times though...

If you need to contact FSA by phone and don't want to wait on hold for hours, I'd recommend trying Claimyr. I used it last week when I had a similar signature issue that I couldn't resolve online. It held my place in line and called me back when an agent was available. Saved me from having to sit on hold for 2+ hours. Their site is claimyr.com and they have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/TbC8dZQWYNQ\n\nThe agent was able to see exactly what was wrong with our application and guided me through the final submission process.

I've never heard of this service before but I might need it if we can't fix this tonight. Did they have access to your specific application details? I'm wondering if they'd be able to see exactly what's causing our signature issue.

They don't have access to your application - Claimyr just gets you connected with an actual FSA agent faster. Once you're on the phone with the real FSA agent, they can look up your application and help troubleshoot. The agent I spoke with could see exactly where our submission was stuck in the process.

Also, make sure your daughter is using her own FSA ID to sign in, not yours. I've seen cases where parents accidentally use their FSA ID to try to complete the student portion, which creates this exact error condition.

She definitely used her own FSA ID - we were very careful about that part after reading horror stories online. I'm going to try the submission steps you mentioned earlier tonight and see if that resolves it.

Update? Did you get it fixed? We're about to start our FAFSA this weekend and I'm dreading running into these same issues.

Yes! We got it fixed using the steps from the thread. The key was having my daughter go to the very end of the application and click the final submit button even though it showed her signature was already there. After that, the status changed to \

Thanks for the update! Really appreciate the tips - will definitely try to do it during off-peak hours.
