FAFSA says 'processed' but can't add ASU school code - need urgent help!
I'm totally confused and starting to panic! I submitted my FAFSA for 2025-2026 back on December 2nd and it shows as 'Processed' in the system. I was SURE I added Arizona State as one of my schools during the application (I distinctly remember selecting it from the dropdown). But today I got this email from ASU's financial aid office saying I need to add their Federal School code to my FAFSA. When I log into studentaid.gov and go to My Activity > 2025-2026 FAFSA, there's no option to add/remove schools! The form is just sitting there marked as 'Processed' with no edit options. Has anyone else run into this problem? Is there some special way to add schools after your FAFSA has been processed? I need to get this fixed ASAP because ASU's priority deadline for aid is coming up soon!

I had this exact same issue last week! Even though your FAFSA shows as 'Processed,' you can still make corrections including adding schools. Don't look under 'My Activity' - that just shows you the status. Instead, click on the 'Apply for Aid' tab at the top of studentaid.gov, then select 'Manage My FAFSA.' From there, you should see an option to 'Make FAFSA Corrections' which will let you add ASU's school code. I think it's 001081, but double-check that with the email they sent you.

•Thank you so much! I was looking in completely the wrong place. I'll try the 'Apply for Aid' section instead of 'My Activity.' Really appreciate the help!

•It's good to know I'm not the only one having this problem! Did you manage to get your schools added after it was already processed?

This is a common issue with the redesigned FAFSA for 2025-2026. To add schools after your FAFSA has been processed: 1. Log into studentaid.gov with your FSA ID 2. Go to the "Apply for Aid" section (not My Activity) 3. Select "Manage My FAFSA" 4. Choose "Make FAFSA Corrections" for your 2025-2026 form 5. Navigate to the "School Selection" section 6. Add ASU's federal school code (001081) 7. Submit the correction The system will process your correction and send the information to ASU, usually within 3-5 business days. Your SAI (Student Aid Index) calculation won't change when you add schools, so you don't need to worry about that part.

•Thank you for these detailed steps! This is exactly what I needed. I'll do this right away. Do you know if I need to notify ASU after I make the correction, or will they automatically receive my information once the FAFSA processes the change?

•ASU will automatically receive your FAFSA data once the correction processes. However, it's good practice to follow up with ASU's financial aid office via email in about a week to confirm they received your information. Include your student ID number in any communications with them. Also, check your ASU student portal regularly as they might update your financial aid status there first before contacting you.

Not to scare you but be aware that ASU's priority deadline for the best financial aid packages was Feb 1st. Adding your FAFSA info now might affect what aid you get offered. Definitely follow up with their financial aid office after you add the school code to see if you need to submit any additional documents to be considered for institutional scholarships.

•Oh no, I didn't realize the priority deadline had already passed! I thought it was in March. Now I'm really worried. I guess I'll call their financial aid office tomorrow to see if there's anything I can do.

I'm having the EXACT opposite problem with the stupid FAFSA site. I added too many schools and now I can't remove some of them. The whole system is glitchy since they redesigned it. My daughter's SAI score is completely wrong too because they counted our retirement savings as available assets which is NOT supposed to happen. The whole process is a nightmare this year!

•You're right that retirement accounts (401k, IRA, etc.) should not be counted as assets on the FAFSA. You'll need to submit a correction for that as well, which could significantly lower your daughter's SAI. Go to the same correction process I mentioned above, but update the asset section instead. If the system won't let you make that change, you may need to file a special circumstances appeal directly with each school's financial aid office.

Have you tried calling Federal Student Aid directly? Sometimes the website is weird but they can help over the phone. I spent THREE HOURS on hold last month trying to fix an issue with my son's FAFSA where his social security number was showing as "not verified" even though we entered it correctly. I finally used this service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that holds your place in line and calls you back when an agent is available. Saved me from waiting on hold all day. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/TbC8dZQWYNQ The agent was able to fix our issue in like 5 minutes once I actually got through to someone. They might be able to add the school code for you directly if the website correction option isn't working.

•I haven't tried calling yet, but that's a good suggestion. I remember trying to call them last year and giving up after being on hold forever. I'll check out that service if the online correction doesn't work. Thanks for the tip!

Just wanted to let you know that you should DOUBLE CHECK your SAI calculation after you add ASU. My daughter had an issue where her SAI somehow changed after adding a school (even though it shouldn't). This affected her aid eligibility at all the schools on her list. If you notice your SAI changes, submit a case review immediately!

•This is unusual but can happen if there was a processing error in the original submission. Adding schools shouldn't change the SAI, but sometimes it triggers a recalculation if there were pending issues. Good advice to check the SAI after any correction.

•Thanks for the warning! I'll definitely check my SAI before and after adding ASU to make sure nothing changes. I can't afford any more problems with my financial aid application.

UPDATE: I just tried using the correction process I described earlier today, and it seems like there's some maintenance happening on studentaid.gov. If you get an error message, try again tomorrow. Sometimes they do overnight updates to the system and it causes temporary glitches.

•Thanks for the update! I actually just tried the correction process and got through without any errors. ASU's school code is now added to my FAFSA. Fingers crossed it processes quickly! Really appreciate everyone's help here.

That's great news that you were able to add ASU's school code! Just as a heads up for anyone else reading this thread - even though you missed ASU's priority deadline, don't give up hope. Many schools have rolling admissions for financial aid, and you might still qualify for federal aid (Pell Grant, student loans) and some institutional scholarships. Also, make sure to check if ASU has any emergency or late-application funds available. Some schools set aside money specifically for students who run into FAFSA processing issues. Good luck with your financial aid package!

•This is really helpful advice! I'm new to this whole FAFSA process and didn't even know schools had emergency funds for situations like this. @Romeo Barrett do you know how to find out if ASU has these late-application funds available? Should I call their financial aid office directly or is there somewhere on their website I should look? I m'trying to stay optimistic even though I m'stressed about missing that priority deadline.
