FAFSA correction status stuck in 'review' after parent signature - how long is normal?

I finally managed to get into my daughter's FAFSA account yesterday after dealing with a verification code issue. I was able to electronically sign both her portion and mine as the contributing parent. The application status changed from 'Signature Required' to 'Correction Received - In Review' immediately. It's been about 24 hours now and the status hasn't changed. I'm worried because her college priority deadline is coming up in 2 weeks. Is this normal processing time? How long should I expect to wait before the corrected SAI is calculated? We had to make some significant corrections to our tax information, so I'm wondering if that slows things down. Anyone have recent experience with how long the 'in review' status typically lasts?

mine took like 3 days to get out of review last month but my friend waited almost 2 weeks so idk seems random

Thanks for the info. Did your friend have to contact the FSA office or did it just eventually update on its own? I'm so nervous about missing this deadline.

The "Correction Received - In Review" status typically takes 3-5 business days to process, but can take up to 10 business days during peak application periods (which we're in right now). If you made significant tax information corrections, this could indeed extend the review time. For priority deadlines, schools typically look at the "Processed Date" of your FAFSA, not when your final SAI is calculated. Make sure to take a screenshot of your current status and email your daughter's financial aid office to let them know you've submitted all required signatures and the application is in review. Most schools are understanding of the FAFSA delays this year.

That's incredibly helpful, thank you! I'll email her school's financial aid office with a screenshot today. I didn't realize they look at the processed date rather than the final calculation. That makes me feel better.

LOL welcome to FAFSA hell!! Sit tight bc my nephew's app was "in review" for 16 DAYS after we made tax corrections. The whole system is messed up this year and none of the deadlines make sense anymore. Good luck getting ANY kind of status update from them!

Exactly this!!! The "simplified" FAFSA is a total disaster this year. My daughter's application has been stuck in various statuses for WEEKS with no explanation. Called FSA 8 times and got disconnected every single time. Such a broken system.

Anyone actually know what "In Review" even means? Like is there a actual human reviewing it or just sitting in an automated queue? It's so frustrating how little information they provide in the student portal.

In" Review means your application has entered the processing queue where both automated systems and potentially human reviewers evaluate the changes made. Tax correction verification is partially automated but may require human intervention if there are discrepancies between reported information and IRS data. The system performs initial verification checks before potentially flagging applications for manualreview.

I just went through this exact situation last week. I had to make tax corrections for my son's FAFSA and it was stuck in "Correction Received - In Review" for 6 days. I was panicking because his deadline was approaching fast. After being stuck on hold forever with FSA support, I finally used Claimyr (claimyr.com) to connect with an actual agent. They helped confirm that everything was indeed processing correctly and gave me a case number to provide to his college's financial aid office. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/TbC8dZQWYNQ The agent also told me that tax information corrections specifically take longer to process than other types of corrections because they need to be verified against IRS records. The good news is that once it processed, it only took about 12 hours to get our updated SAI calculation.

That's EXACTLY what I needed to know - that tax corrections take longer. Thank you! I'll check out that service if it's still not updated in a few days. Getting a case number to provide to the financial aid office sounds really helpful.

Here's some practical advice for you while you wait: 1. Document everything: Take screenshots of your current status showing the date/time 2. Email the financial aid office NOW, don't wait (include your screenshots) 3. If tax corrections are involved, expect 5-10 business days minimum 4. The priority deadline usually applies to the initial submission, not final processing 5. If you don't see an update within 7 business days, THEN start trying to contact FSA directly I work in college admissions and can tell you that most schools have internal procedures for handling FAFSA delays this year. They won't penalize students for processing issues beyond their control.

'Won t penalize" students HAHAHA tell that to my kid who missed out on $5000 in institutional grants because their FAFSA'wasn "t fully" processed by the priority deadline despite us submitting weeks early. Schools are just using the FAFSA mess as an excuse to reduce their aid packages thisyear.

I'm truly sorry to hear about your experience, but that's not standard practice at most institutions. There's significant variation in how schools are handling the FAFSA delays, and some are certainly handling it better than others. Students experiencing that type of situation should immediately appeal the aid decision with documentation of their timely submission.

quick question does anyone know if making corrections resets your place in line for getting your SAI?? i need to fix something but don't want to lose my spot if I'm already being processed

UPDATE: Our status finally changed from "In Review" to "Processed" this morning! It took exactly 4 business days (6 days total including the weekend). Our new SAI has been calculated and is now showing on the dashboard. I emailed the college financial aid office like many of you suggested and they were super understanding. Thanks everyone for your help and suggestions!

That's great news! Glad to hear it processed within a reasonable timeframe. This is helpful information for others in the same situation - the 4-5 business day window seems to be fairly standard for tax-related corrections right now.
