FAFSA correction notification missing - will studentaid.gov show what needs fixing?
I'm completely stressed about my son's FAFSA for 2025-2026. He submitted it last week, but hasn't received any confirmation email. When I log into the studentaid.gov account, I don't see any notifications about corrections needed, but I've heard horror stories about "silent rejections" where they don't tell you something's wrong! With all the FAFSA system problems this year, I'm worried his application is sitting in limbo with some issue we can't see. For those who've had to correct their FAFSA (missing signature, wrong tax info, etc.) - did the system clearly tell you what needed fixing when you logged in? Or did you only find out through email? I'm tempted to just resubmit the whole thing, but don't want to create duplicate applications.

We had to fix my daughter's FAFSA bc we forgot to sign it (facepalm) and yes the dashboard definitely showed a big notification when we logged in. It was pretty obvious something needed fixing - had a warning symbol and everything. If you're not seeing anything like that, it's probably fine. How long has it been since submission?

•It's been 8 days since submission. That's somewhat reassuring! Did you also get an email about the missing signature or was the dashboard the only notification?

When there's a correction needed, you should see it in both places - email notification AND on the dashboard when you log in. The dashboard will show a clear alert with a link to the specific section that needs correction. If you're not seeing anything, it's likely still processing. The system is taking 10-14 days just to process applications this year with the new SAI calculations. I wouldn't worry yet, but make sure your email filters aren't sending FAFSA messages to spam.

•Thank you - that's very helpful! I'll check our spam folders right away and keep an eye out for the next week. The 10-14 day timeline helps set my expectations.

•Same!! Applied in January and it took 19 days to get the confirmation email. The worst part is you can't tell if it's actually processing or if something's wrong. My daughter nearly missed her priority deadline because of it.

For what it's worth, our experience with corrections was very clear. My daughter needed to update her contributor information for her FAFSA, and when we logged in, there was a big yellow alert box at the top of the dashboard that said exactly what needed to be fixed. It also sent an email to both her account and mine (as the contributor). However, the initial processing time was much longer than in previous years - almost 3 weeks before we got the first confirmation email that it was processed successfully. The system is definitely struggling with the new SAI calculations and backend changes.

•That's MUCH longer than I expected! Sounds like I need to be more patient. Did your SAI score show up immediately after getting the confirmation email or was there another waiting period?

•They definitely still send emails - our family received multiple ones throughout the process. It's possible your friend's emails went to spam or there was an issue with the email address on the account. This is why I recommend checking both the dashboard AND email regularly.

Financial aid advisor here - the new FAFSA has been challenging, but there are some consistent patterns. If corrections are needed, you'll see a notification in the account dashboard with specific flags on which sections need attention. Processing times are indeed much longer (10-21 days typically). If you want to verify everything is on track, you have a few options: 1. Wait for the full processing time (2-3 weeks currently) 2. Check the FAFSA status tracker in the account 3. Contact Federal Student Aid directly For option #3, I've had several students successfully use Claimyr (claimyr.com) to get through to FSA agents quickly instead of waiting on hold for hours. They have a demo video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/TbC8dZQWYNQ The agent can tell you if there are any issues flagged in their system that aren't showing up on your dashboard yet.

•Thank you so much for these options! I wasn't aware of the status tracker - I'll look for that. If we don't see any updates by the end of next week, we'll probably try contacting FSA directly. That Claimyr service looks helpful - waiting on hold for hours isn't feasible with our work schedules.

I've been through this nightmare THREE TIMES now with my twin daughters' FAFSAs. Here's what I learned: 1. The website WILL show you what needs correction when you log in - big yellow banner, can't miss it 2. Sometimes the emails get delayed by DAYS after the website updates 3. The processing time is INSANE compared to previous years 4. If any parent/contributor info changes, you'll go back to waiting another 2 weeks The most frustrating thing is schools can't even see the FAFSA in their systems until it fully processes. My daughter nearly lost her scholarship because of these delays! I'm SO OVER the new FAFSA changes!!!

•Oh no, that's concerning about the schools not seeing it yet! I should probably contact my son's college financial aid office to let them know we've submitted but are waiting for processing. Did you find the schools were understanding about the delays?

•Most were understanding but STILL held to their scholarship deadlines! They said "we know the system is broken, but we can't make exceptions for everyone." One school gave a 10-day extension after I complained to three different people. It's totally unfair - none of this is our fault!

Just to add one more data point - the FAFSA processing time varies depending on what you reported. For families with straightforward income (W-2 only, no business income) using the IRS Data Retrieval Tool, processing is faster. If you have business income, rental properties, or manually entered tax data, it takes much longer because it goes through additional verification steps. This might explain why some people see 1 week processing while others wait 3+ weeks.

•That makes sense! We have some investment income and a small side business, so that might be slowing things down. I'll try to be more patient... just feeling anxious with college decisions coming up soon.

my son finly got his SAI score yesterday and it was WAYY higher than expected!! like $7000 more than the old EFC calculation would have been!! anyone else seeing huge differences with the new formula???

•That's unfortunately common with the new SAI formula, especially for families with multiple children in college. The old EFC gave a substantial discount for multiple students, but the new SAI reduced that benefit significantly. There are also changes to how assets are calculated and protected. If your SAI seems unusually high, you might want to check for potential errors in what was reported.

Update us when you finally hear back! I'm curious how long it actually takes for you. And definitely check spam folders - my daughter's confirmation went to her promotions tab in Gmail and she almost missed it.

•Will do! I checked all our spam and promotion folders but nothing yet. I'll post an update when we finally get confirmation. Thanks everyone for the helpful information - feeling less anxious now that I know the long wait times are normal.
