FAFSA reprocessing not showing up at college after contributor signature correction
I'm seriously frustrated with this FAFSA situation. I submitted my application back in March, but got notified it was rejected because my mom's contributor signature was missing (she's divorced and forgot to complete her section). I fixed everything on May 2nd and got the confirmation email the NEXT DAY saying my FAFSA was successfully processed. Great, right? WRONG. Just called my top choice school's financial aid office yesterday and they're telling me they only have my original rejected application on file. They have no record of the corrected one with my mom's signature! Has this happened to anyone else? Do I need to manually notify each school about the reprocessed FAFSA? The deadline for finalizing my aid package is in 3 weeks and I'm panicking.

This actually happens more than you'd think. The reprocessed FAFSA should automatically be sent to all schools on your list, but there can be delays in the system. Here's what you should do: 1. Log into your studentaid.gov account and check that all your schools are still listed in the "Send to" section 2. Take a screenshot of your processed FAFSA with the confirmation number and date 3. Email this to your school's financial aid office 4. Ask them to manually check if they've received it since your last call The processing system has been extra glitchy this year with all the FAFSA Simplification Act changes. I've seen delays of up to 10 business days for schools to receive updated applications.

•Thank you! I just checked and all my schools are definitely listed there. I'll take those screenshots right now and email my counselor. Do you think I should call the Federal Student Aid office too, or just wait to see what the school says?

•Thanks for letting me know! I'll definitely call them again tomorrow. Did they have you do anything specific to make it work?

I work in financial aid at a community college and we see this ALL THE TIME. There are two different processing systems - one that handles the initial submission and one that handles corrections. Sometimes the correction system sends out confirmations to students before the data actually transmits to schools. Best solution is to contact your school's financial aid office directly with your confirmation number and processing date. They can manually request your corrected FAFSA from the federal processor using your DRN (Data Retrieval Number) which should be on your SAR (Student Aid Report).

•This is so helpful, thank you! I didn't even know about the DRN. I'm going to look for that on my SAR right now. So frustrating that there are two different systems - seems like they should talk to each other automatically.

THE FAFSA SYSTEM IS COMPLETELY BROKEN THIS YEAR!!! We had the same exact problem with my daughter's application. Fixed the parent signature in April, got confirmation, and then THREE WEEKS LATER her university still didn't have it. Called FSA and they said "oh yeah we see it was processed" but couldn't explain why the school didn't have it. Eventually had to get the school to manually request it using some special override code. Such a nightmare.

•This FAFSA simplification has been anything but simple. My niece had to completely redo her application because of a similar issue with parent signatures. The whole system seems to be falling apart this year.

I called the FSA myself and found out there's a backlog. Just wait another week and it'll probably show up.

•I can't really afford to wait another week since my aid package deadline is coming up soon. How long ago did you have your issue resolved?

After having a similar issue, I used Claimyr to get through to an actual FSA agent instead of waiting on hold forever. It was worth it - got connected in minutes instead of hours. You can see how it works at https://youtu.be/TbC8dZQWYNQ or just go to claimyr.com. The agent was able to verify my reprocessed FAFSA was in the system and gave me a special code I could give to my financial aid office to manually pull the updated version. Saved me weeks of waiting.

•Thank you for this! I've been trying to call FSA for days but keep getting disconnected or put on eternal hold. Just checked out the video and this looks like exactly what I need. Did they actually solve your problem completely or just give you information?

•The agent completely solved it. They gave me a case number and verification code that I gave to my school's financial aid office, and the school was able to pull my corrected FAFSA within 24 hours. Definitely worth not spending hours on hold.

Just to add one more thing - once you get in touch with the school's financial aid office, ask them to check the ISIR transaction number they have. The original submission is usually transaction #01, corrections are #02 and so on. If they only have transaction #01, that confirms they don't have your corrected submission yet. This will help them understand exactly what they need to request from FSA.

•Great point about the transaction numbers! That's super helpful information for tracking exactly where the breakdown happened in the processing system.

btw has anyone gotten their SAI score yet? mine seems super high compared to the old EFC from last year...

•YES! My daughter's SAI is almost $4000 higher than her EFC was last year with literally NO CHANGE in our family finances. It's absolutely ridiculous. We're going to have to appeal.

UPDATE: I finally got this resolved! I used Claimyr to reach an FSA agent (thanks for that suggestion), and they confirmed my corrected FAFSA was fully processed. They gave me a case number and told me which transaction number the school should be looking for (#03 in my case). I called my school's financial aid office, gave them this info, and they were able to manually pull my corrected FAFSA within a few hours. They said lots of students are having this issue. For anyone else dealing with this - don't wait for the systems to fix themselves, be proactive and contact both FSA and your school directly!
