FAFSA applications from mid-March still not processed? Where to check status?
Ugh I'm starting to panic. I submitted my FAFSA application back on March 14th and still see NOTHING showing as processed. It's been over 7 weeks now! I've been checking studentaid.gov daily but all I see is my application listed as "submitted" with no updates. I'm super confused about where I'm even supposed to look for processing status or awards. Is it on the main dashboard after logging in? Am I supposed to get an email notification? Do I need to check somewhere else entirely? My friend who applied in February already got her SAI and award package from her school. Has anyone else who applied mid-March actually been processed yet?

Try not to panic - this year's processing times are all over the place. I applied March 12th and mine was processed two weeks ago, but my daughter applied March 18th and hers is still pending. The main page after login should show "Processed" with a green checkmark when it's done, and you'll also receive an email notification. The email sometimes goes to spam though, so check there too. Your college's financial aid portal is actually the best place to see if your FAFSA was received and processed, since they'll show your actual aid package there.

•Thanks! I'll check my school's portal. I didn't even think of that. Do you remember how long yours took from submission to processing? I'm stressing because my tuition deposit is due soon and I have no idea what aid I'm getting.

I've been waiting since FEBRUARY 28TH!!!!! Still says submitted, not processed. Called FSA 4 TIMES and got disconnected every single time after waiting 1-2 hours. The system is completely broken this year and nobody cares that students are suffering. How are we supposed to make college decisions with NO FINANCIAL INFO??? My deposit is due May 1st and still NOTHING. This is absolutely ridiculous.

•omg same!! applied in february and nothing. called twice and nobody picks up ever. did you end up just putting down your deposit without knowing?

•I had to!! Put down $500 at my second choice school because they gave me a preliminary package based on last year's info. My top choice won't do that and wants the official FAFSA. I'm beyond frustrated with this whole system.

Processing times vary significantly this year due to the FAFSA Simplification rollout. The Department of Education has stated that applications submitted in March may take 6-8 weeks to process. Here's what you need to know: 1. Status check locations: - studentaid.gov under "My FAFSA" (not just the dashboard) - Official SAI email notification (check spam folders) - Your school's financial aid portal 2. If your tuition deposit is due soon, contact your school's financial aid office directly. Many institutions are offering extensions or preliminary packages due to the widespread FAFSA delays. 3. SAI scores are being released in batches, not strictly in chronological order, which explains why some March applications are processed while February ones remain pending. If you need to speak with someone at Federal Student Aid about your specific case, their phone lines are overwhelmed right now, but persistence is key.

•Thank you for this detailed info! I just called my school's financial aid office and they confirmed they don't have my processed FAFSA yet either. They said they'll accept my enrollment deposit late if needed since so many students are in the same position.

My son did his on March 10 and we just got the email yesterday that it was processed. But we had a really weird situation where it showed as processed on the school's portal for like 3 weeks before studentaid.gov updated? So definitely check with your schools too. I think the whole system is just overwhelmed.

I was in a similar situation and kept getting disconnected when calling FSA. Finally used Claimyr (claimyr.com) to reach an actual person after trying for days on my own. They have this system that holds your place in line and calls you when an agent is available. Saved me hours of frustration. They have a video showing how it works here: https://youtu.be/TbC8dZQWYNQ When I finally got through, the agent told me my application had an error flag that wasn't visible on my end, which was why it was stuck. They fixed it on the spot and it was processed 3 days later. Might be worth checking if there's an issue with yours too.

•Oh wow, that's interesting about the error flag! I had no idea they could have issues that we can't even see. I'll check out that service because I've tried calling twice now and got disconnected both times after waiting forever.

•does that service cost money?? seems weird to pay just to talk to fafsa...

•Yeah it's not free, but for me it was worth it to finally get an answer instead of wasting more hours on hold. Found out there was a specific issue with my parent contribution section that needed to be corrected.

•That's not uncommon this year. There's a delay between FSA processing and when colleges receive the data. It can take 1-2 weeks after your SAI appears for schools to receive and import your information. If it's been longer than that, have you checked that your school codes were correctly entered on your FAFSA?

•oh maybe thats it!! i'll double check my school codes. thx!

One more thing to try: log out of studentaid.gov completely, clear your browser cache/cookies, and log back in. Sometimes the status updates aren't showing correctly due to cached data. I've seen several cases where this resolved display issues and showed the current status.

•Just tried this and unfortunately still shows as submitted. But good tip, I'll try it again in a few days. I'm going to call my school's financial aid office tomorrow to see if they can offer any insights.
