FAFSA form says 'Processed' but no SAI calculation - stuck for 4 weeks
I submitted my FAFSA on March 18 (a month ago!) and my dashboard still just says 'Processed' with no SAI calculation or award letter. My college's financial aid deadline is coming up in 2 weeks and I'm getting really nervous. When I log into studentaid.gov, I can see my previous loans ($12,103) and Pell Grants ($8,890) from last year, but nothing about my new application results. Is this normal for the 2024-25 FAFSA? Should I be doing something else to move this along? I've tried calling the financial aid office at my school but they just told me to wait for the federal processing to finish. Anyone else dealing with this frustrating limbo state?

Same boat! I submitted mine on March 10th and STILL nothing beyond 'Processed'. No SAI score, nothing sent to my schools. This new FAFSA system is a complete disaster. I called the Federal Student Aid hotline THREE times and got disconnected each time after waiting 1+ hours. My community college's financial aid deadline is May 1st and I'm panicking that I'll miss out on grants.

•This is so stressful! Have you tried emailing them instead of calling? I'm wondering if that might work better.

The new FAFSA rollout has been extremely problematic this year. "Processed" only means they've received your application - it doesn't mean they've calculated your SAI or sent information to your schools. Unfortunately, many students are experiencing 4-6 week delays AFTER the "Processed" status appears. I recommend taking screenshots of your submission date and status to show your school's financial aid office if you miss their deadline. Most schools are adjusting their deadlines because of these federal delays.

•Thank you for explaining! I'll definitely take screenshots. Do you know if there's any way to check if they've started calculating my SAI yet? Is there another status I should be looking for?

Financial aid advisor here. You should know that many schools have extended their priority deadlines due to the FAFSA delays. I recommend taking these steps: 1. Email your school's financial aid office explaining your situation and include screenshots of your submission date and "Processed" status 2. Ask specifically if they've extended their priority deadline 3. Request that they place a note in your file that you submitted your FAFSA on time 4. Check if your school requires the CSS Profile in addition to FAFSA (some private schools do) The Department of Education has acknowledged the delays and is working to speed things up, but you should definitely be proactive with your school.

•This is incredibly helpful, thank you! I'll email my financial aid office tomorrow with screenshots. I didn't even think about asking them to note that I submitted on time. Do you know if I should be filling out any other forms while waiting?

After trying for DAYS to reach someone at Federal Student Aid about my stuck "Processed" status, I finally found a service called Claimyr that got me through to a live agent in less than 20 minutes. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/TbC8dZQWYNQ The agent told me that many applications are getting stuck in a verification queue even when they haven't been officially selected for verification. She manually moved my application forward and I got my SAI calculation 2 days later. Worth checking out if you're still stuck in a week - claimyr.com

•Yes, it actually worked for me! I was super skeptical too but was desperate after getting disconnected 5 times. The agent I talked to was able to see exactly where my application was stuck in their system and manually pushed it through.

My daughter's FAFSA showed "Processed" for exactly 31 days before her SAI suddenly appeared. The most frustrating part was that we had no idea if there was a problem or if it was just the normal wait time. We ended up submitting an appeal to her top choice school explaining the delay was on the federal side. Most schools understand this is happening to everyone this year and are being flexible with their internal deadlines. Hang in there!

•Thank you for sharing your experience! It's reassuring to hear that most schools are being understanding about the federal delays. I'll definitely reach out to my school.

•That's great news! Congratulations! Fingers crossed mine comes through soon too. Did you receive any email notification or did you just have to keep checking the site?

•No email at all! I've just been obsessively checking the site every morning and evening. The system is terrible at communicating updates.

One important tip: While waiting for your SAI calculation, make sure you've completed any other required financial aid steps. Many schools require additional institutional forms, CSS Profile (for private colleges), or verification documents BEYOND the FAFSA. Check your school's financial aid portal or website for their specific requirements. Also, if you're a dependent student, make sure your parent/contributor has also signed the FAFSA form - this is a common reason for silent delays.

•That's a great point! I just checked and thankfully my parent did sign. I'll look into whether my school needs any additional forms. Thanks!

•While frustrating, the new FAFSA system was redesigned to simplify the application process and expand eligibility. The rollout has been problematic, but long-term it should be beneficial with fewer questions and more accurate need assessment. This year is unfortunately the difficult transition period.

UPDATE: I finally got my SAI calculation yesterday! It took exactly 33 days after the "Processed" status appeared. I immediately contacted my school's financial aid office and they confirmed they received my information. They also told me they've extended their priority deadline by 3 weeks because of all the FAFSA delays, so I'm still good! Thanks everyone for your advice and support through this stressful waiting period.

Congratulations Miguel! It's so relieving to hear success stories like yours. I'm actually in a similar situation - submitted my FAFSA on March 15th and still waiting for my SAI calculation. This thread has been incredibly helpful in understanding that the delays are widespread and not just affecting me. I'm definitely going to follow the advice about taking screenshots and contacting my school's financial aid office proactively. It's frustrating that the new system is causing so much stress during an already stressful time, but knowing that schools are being understanding and extending deadlines gives me hope. Thanks to everyone who shared their experiences and advice!
