FAFSA SAI score delay - submitted Dec 22, still waiting?

I submitted my FAFSA on December 22nd and it's now been over 3 weeks with no SAI score. The studentaid.gov dashboard just shows 'processing' with no timeline estimate. Is this normal for the 2025-2026 application? My college's priority deadline is February 5th and I'm seriously getting worried they'll run out of grant money if my FAFSA doesn't process soon. Has anyone who submitted around the same time already gotten their Student Aid Index? I'm checking my email obsessively and nothing!

Ya ive been waiting since Dec 19 and still nothing. The website says 3-5 days for processing but clearly thats BS. I think they're just super backed up this yr with all the new changes.

3-5 days...that's a joke! Have you tried calling them? I've attempted twice but gave up after being on hold for 45+ minutes each time.

The processing time for the 2025-2026 FAFSA is significantly longer than previous years due to the FAFSA Simplification Act changes. Most applications are taking 4-6 weeks minimum to process right now, with some taking up to 8 weeks. Don't worry too much about your school's priority deadline - most financial aid offices are aware of the federal delays and are adjusting their internal timelines accordingly. You should contact your school's financial aid office directly to let them know you've submitted, and they can make a note in your file.

Thank you for the detailed info! That's somewhat reassuring. I'll email my school's financial aid office tomorrow to let them know my situation.

I just got my SAI yesterday after submitting on December 18th, so it took exactly 4 weeks. From what I've heard, they're processing in batches rather than continuously, which is why some people get results faster than others even if they submitted later. One thing to check - make sure your email settings have studentaid.gov as an approved sender, as some notifications are getting filtered to spam/junk folders.

That's good to know about the batch processing! Just checked my spam folder and nothing from them there either. I guess I just need to be patient...

I've been dealing with FAFSA delays for the past month and was getting desperate because I needed my SAI for scholarship applications. After trying to call for days and getting nowhere, I found this service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that got me connected to a FAFSA agent in about 12 minutes instead of the usual hours-long wait. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/TbC8dZQWYNQ The agent told me there was actually a small error on my form that was causing the delay (my parent's birthdate was entered wrong). They fixed it right away and my SAI came through 2 days later. Might be worth a try if you're on a tight deadline.

Whoa, that's actually really helpful! I didn't even know services like that existed. I might try that next week if I still don't have any updates. Thanks for sharing this!

Every1 needs 2 chill lol. This happens EVERY year with FAFSA. Yes its taking longer but ur schools know this. My sister works in finaid and says theyre extending ALL deadlines by like a month minimum. Just wait it out.

I wish my school would actually communicate that. Their website still shows the original February deadline with no mention of extensions.

For those concerned about deadlines, I recommend three steps: 1. Email your school's financial aid office with your FAFSA confirmation number and submission date 2. Take screenshots of your FAFSA submission confirmation page 3. Check the school's financial aid website or call them directly about adjusted deadlines Most institutions understand the unprecedented delays this year and are being flexible. However, you should still document everything and be proactive in communicating with your school. The Department of Education has also advised schools to be accommodating with their priority deadlines for the 2025-2026 cycle specifically because of these processing delays.

This is excellent advice. I've already emailed my school with my confirmation details and they responded saying they're aware of the delays and will consider my FAFSA as meeting the priority deadline as long as I submitted before January 31st. Such a relief!

Has anyone actually gotten through on FSA's phone line lately???? I've tried 6 DIFFERENT TIMES this week alone and I can't get a human!!!! Either the call disconnects or the automated system tells me the wait is over 2 hours. This is absolutely RIDICULOUS!!!

I was in the same boat until I used Claimyr. The regular FAFSA phone line is completely overwhelmed right now. When I finally got through, the agent said they're getting 3x their normal call volume with the new FAFSA rollout.

just tried the claimyr thing and got through in 15 mins!! the agent said my application had been selected for verification which is why it was taking so long. at least now i know what's happening. thx for the recommendation
