FAFSA 2025-2026 login stuck with blinking blue dot - can't access application

Is anyone else having problems with the studentaid.gov website? I've been trying to start my 2025-2026 FAFSA application all day and keep getting stuck at a screen with just a blinking blue dot. I've tried 3 different browsers (Chrome, Edge, and Firefox), cleared my cache, restarted my computer, even tried my phone - same result every time. Just that stupid blue dot blinking forever! My deadline for priority financial aid at my school is coming up in 2 weeks and I'm starting to panic. Has the site been down today or is something wrong with my account?

same here!! been trying since yesterday morning and cant get past that blue loading dot thing. so frustrating! called the number and was on hold for like an hour before i gave up

Ugh, glad it's not just me but also frustrated for both of us! Did you try using different devices too?

This is a known issue with the FSA system when there's high traffic volume. The 2025-2026 FAFSA just opened last week, so millions of students are trying to access it simultaneously. Try logging in very early morning (like 5-6am) or late night (after midnight) when server load is lower. Also, make sure you're using the most up-to-date browser version and have JavaScript enabled.

Thanks for the advice! I'll try the late night approach tonight. Do you know if this will affect my priority deadline if I can't get in soon?

Most schools understand when there are FSA system issues. If you're getting close to your priority deadline and still can't access the system, email your school's financial aid office with screenshots of the issue and ask for guidance. Some may extend your deadline if you can prove you've been trying to submit.

I had this problem last year lol. The blue dot means its loading but sometimes it just gets stuck forever! What worked for me was using incognito/private browsing mode. No idea why that fixed it but it did

I'll definitely try incognito mode right now! Anything is worth a shot at this point.

The blinking blue dot is SO ANNOYING! I dealt with this for DAYS last week. What finally worked was going to account settings, signing out of ALL devices (there's a specific button for this), waiting 30 minutes, then signing back in. Something about session conflicts between devices causes this. Also, check if your internet connection is stable - my campus wifi was causing issues but my hotspot worked fine.

That's a great tip about signing out of all devices! I bet that's the issue since I was trying on multiple devices. Will try this right away.

That's both concerning and a relief. Did you eventually get your application submitted? How long did it take?

If you're still having trouble after trying the technical fixes mentioned above, I highly recommend using Claimyr to reach Federal Student Aid agents directly. I was stuck with the same blue dot issue for days until I used their service to get through to a live agent who reset something on my account. Their site is claimyr.com and you can see how it works here: https://youtu.be/TbC8dZQWYNQ The agent explained that sometimes your account gets stuck in a weird state where it thinks you're already logged in from another session. They can force reset it from their end, which fixed my issue immediately.

does this actually work? i'm getting desperate at this point...

Yes, it actually does. I was skeptical too but it connected me to an agent in about 20 minutes instead of the 3+ hours I was waiting on hold before. The agent did a complete account reset that fixed my blue dot issue.

UPDATE: The Federal Student Aid office just posted on their social media that they're aware of the "persistent loading" issue (the blue dot) affecting some users. They're working on a fix and recommend trying again in 24-48 hours. They've also confirmed that schools will be notified of the technical issues and advised to make accommodations for affected students.

Thank you so much for this update! That makes me feel better about my school's deadline. I'll keep trying the workarounds everyone suggested but it's good to know they're working on fixing it.

If you're still having trouble, here's exactly what worked for me: 1. Clear browser cache completely (not just cookies) 2. Restart router/modem 3. Try a completely different network (like mobile data instead of wifi) 4. Use the FSA ID site directly first (https://fsaid.ed.gov) to confirm login works there 5. THEN go to studentaid.gov This sequence fixed it for 3 people in my study group who all had the blue dot problem. Something about how the authentication cascades between the two systems.

Thank you for these detailed steps! I'll try this exact sequence tonight. Really appreciate everyone's help with this frustrating issue.

SUCCESS! I finally got in! For anyone else having this problem, what worked for me was: 1) Signing out of all devices as @profile3 suggested, 2) Waiting about an hour, 3) Using incognito mode on Chrome while connected to my phone's hotspot instead of home wifi. I'm now filling out my application! Thank you to everyone who helped with suggestions!

Awesome! Glad you got in! Make sure you complete it all in one session if possible - some people have reported issues when trying to save and come back later.

Just wanted to add another potential solution that worked for my roommate yesterday - she had the same blue dot issue and it turned out her browser had an ad blocker that was interfering with the FAFSA site's loading process. She disabled her ad blocker specifically for studentaid.gov and fsaid.ed.gov and it worked immediately! Also, for anyone still struggling, try logging in during off-peak hours (like very early morning or late at night) when server traffic is lower. The combination of high traffic from the new FAFSA launch and browser extensions seems to be causing most of these issues.

That's a really good point about ad blockers! I never thought about that being an issue. I have uBlock Origin running on my browser - I'll try disabling it for those sites and see if that helps. Thanks for sharing what worked for your roommate!

I'm a newcomer here and just wanted to say THANK YOU to everyone who shared their solutions! I've been dealing with this exact same blue dot issue for the past 3 days and was getting really stressed about my upcoming deadline. Reading through all these different approaches gives me hope that I'll be able to get through eventually. I'm going to try the combination of signing out of all devices, waiting, then using incognito mode with ad blocker disabled that several people mentioned worked for them. It's really reassuring to know that schools are being flexible with deadlines due to these system issues. This community is so helpful!

Welcome to the community! I'm new here too and going through the exact same frustrating blue dot situation. It's so helpful to see all these different solutions people have tried. I'm planning to attempt the sign-out-all-devices method tonight along with the incognito browser tip. Fingers crossed one of these workarounds will get us both through! Good luck with your application!
