FAFSA 2024-2025 application disappeared after error during corrections - help needed!

I'm freaking out right now! I was trying to make some corrections to my 2024-2025 FAFSA application (parent income section had a typo), but when I clicked submit, I got some weird error message telling me to exit. I thought it would be fine to just log back in and try again, but now my entire FAFSA application is GONE from my dashboard! It was showing "processing" yesterday, but now there's literally nothing there. Has this happened to anyone else? Did I just lose all my work? Financial aid deadlines for my top schools are coming up in 2 weeks and I'm seriously panicking. Any advice on how to recover my application or do I need to start over completely?

same thing happened to me last week! try clearing ur cookies and cache, then log back in. mine reappeared after that

Thanks, I'll try that right now! Did you have to redo any of your corrections afterward or was everything still there?

Don't panic yet. This is a known issue with the 2024-2025 FAFSA right now, especially when making corrections. There are a few things you should try: 1. Clear your browser cache and cookies as suggested above 2. Try logging in using a different browser entirely 3. Wait 24 hours - sometimes the application is actually still in the system but temporarily not displaying 4. Check if you received any confirmation emails when you initially submitted If none of that works, you'll need to contact Federal Student Aid directly. The phone lines are extremely busy right now so be prepared to wait.

Thank you for the detailed suggestions! I've tried clearing cache but still don't see it. I'll try a different browser now and check my emails. Really hoping I don't have to call them - I tried last month for a different issue and couldn't get through after 2 hours on hold.

Ugh the new FAFSA system is such a NIGHTMARE!!! I've had nothing but problems since they rolled out these "improvements." My application disappeared THREE TIMES and I had to start over each time. The parent contribution section kept glitching and not saving my stepdad's information correctly. Then they calculated my SAI completely wrong! My college financial aid office said they're seeing tons of similar problems. Good luck getting any actual help from FSA - their customer service is practically nonexistent.

ikr?? my friend waited on hold for 3hrs and got disconnected right when someone answered 💀

Try checking your email for any notifications from studentaid.gov - sometimes they send emails about application status changes that might explain what happened. Also, have you tried using the mobile app instead of the website? Sometimes one works when the other doesn't.

Just checked all my emails (including spam) and don't see anything from them since my initial confirmation when I first submitted. I didn't know there was a mobile app - I'll download that and see if my application shows up there!

This is happening because of the ongoing system updates for the new FAFSA Simplification Act implementation. What you're experiencing is frustrating but fairly common right now. If your application truly disappeared (not just temporarily hidden due to display issues), you should: 1. Take screenshots of what you're seeing as documentation 2. Contact your school's financial aid office immediately - they may have already received your data even if you can't see it on your end 3. Try using Claimyr (claimyr.com) to get through to an FSA agent quickly. I had the same issue last week and spent hours trying to get through the regular way. With Claimyr I was connected in under 10 minutes. They have a video that shows how it works: https://youtu.be/TbC8dZQWYNQ The agent I spoke with was able to locate my "disappeared" application in their system and restore access on my account.

Thank you so much for the detailed advice! I'll contact my schools tomorrow morning. I just watched that Claimyr video - didn't know this service existed! Definitely going to try this if my application doesn't reappear by tomorrow. Did the agent need any specific information to find your application?

DO NOT start over with a new application!!! This could cause even bigger problems with duplicate applications in the system. This happened to my daughter and when she created a new application, it caused both to get flagged for verification which delayed her aid by months.

Oh wow, thank you for the warning! I was seriously considering just starting over tonight. I'll definitely wait and try to recover the original application instead.

If it makes you feel any better, I think a lot of schools are being more flexible with FAFSA deadlines this year because of all the system problems. My son's college extended their priority deadline by 3 weeks because so many families were having submission issues.

That's good to know! I'll check with my schools about any deadline extensions just in case I can't get this resolved quickly.

Just wanted to follow up - were you able to recover your application? If not, I recommend calling FSA with your Save Key and the email address you used for the application. The agent should be able to see all applications associated with your account, even ones not displaying on your dashboard. They can also tell you if your corrections went through despite the error message.

Thank you for checking back! I logged in this morning and it's still not there. I tried the Claimyr service you recommended and got through to an agent in about 15 minutes. They confirmed my application is still in their system but there's a technical issue with my account dashboard. They're escalating it to their IT team and said it should be fixed within 48 hours. They also confirmed my school already received my FAFSA data, which is a huge relief!

This happened to my brother too - turned out his application wasn't actually gone, just not displaying correctly. But seriously, they've had like 2 YEARS to prepare this new system and it's still completely broken. How hard is it to make a website that actually works?! 🤬

The technical issues are frustrating, but remember this is a massive overhaul of the entire system with new SAI formula calculations and streamlined questions. Growing pains are unfortunately expected with such a big change. Rest assured that most of these display issues don't affect the actual processing of your information.
