Can't login to FAFSA account after 3-week review period - athlete daughter starting summer classes soon

This is so frustrating! Did anyone else have trouble logging back into their FAFSA account after that 3-day review period? It's been THREE WEEKS now and I still can't access my account! 😫 Keep getting error messages or the login page just refreshes without letting me in. My daughter has committed to a college basketball scholarship and is supposed to start summer classes in less than a month. The financial aid office keeps telling us they need our FAFSA info finalized ASAP or her athlete housing won't be processed in time. I've tried calling FSA but either get disconnected or told the wait is 2+ hours. Any advice on how to get back into the account? Or should I just start a new application from scratch at this point? So stressed about this holding up her athletic scholarship!

I had this same problem last month! The 3-day review period is supposed to be just that - 3 days. After that, you should automatically get an email telling you your SAI has been calculated and you can log back in. Three weeks definitely means something's wrong. Have you tried clearing your browser cache and cookies? Sometimes the studentaid.gov site gets stuck with old login data. Also, try using a completely different browser than you normally use. When I couldn't get in, I switched from Chrome to Firefox and it worked immediately.

Thanks, I'll try a different browser right now. I've been using Chrome this whole time. I did get the email saying my SAI was calculated about 2.5 weeks ago, but when I click the link in the email it just takes me to the login page where I get stuck in that refresh loop again. So frustrating!

i had similar issues. try resetting ur password completely. sometimes the system gets weird after the review period and ur old credentials stop working even tho the site doesnt tell u thats the problem. might help ur daughter get that basketball money faster lol

Just tried that and still getting the same issue 😭 The password reset worked but then when I try to login with the new password it still does that weird refresh thing without any error message. It's like I'm trapped in FAFSA purgatory!

This is not normal at all. I work in financial aid at a university, and while we see login issues with studentaid.gov frequently, they rarely last more than a few days. Some troubleshooting steps: 1. Clear browser cache/cookies as suggested 2. Try a private/incognito browsing window 3. Check if your FSA ID might be locked due to too many login attempts 4. Verify you're using the correct FSA ID (parent vs. student) 5. Try the mobile app instead of the website If none of that works, I strongly recommend getting through to a live agent at FSA. With athletic scholarships, timing is critical as many schools have strict deadlines for athlete onboarding and housing. Don't start over with a new application unless specifically instructed by FSA - that will likely cause more delays.

Thank you for the detailed steps! I tried 1-4 with no luck. I didn't know there was a mobile app - I'll download that now and see if I can get in that way. You're right about the athletic scholarship timing. The coach has already warned us that if we don't get this sorted soon, they might have to give her dorm spot to another incoming athlete. 😬

The SAME EXACT thing happened with my son's application!!! I couldn't get in for almost a month and missed his housing deposit deadline because of it. The whole system is DELIBERATELY BROKEN if you ask me. They don't want to give out the aid so they make it impossible to complete the process. I ended up driving 3 hours to a Federal Student Aid in-person office and made them fix it. Only thing that worked!!

There are no Federal Student Aid "in-person offices" where the public can just walk in. FSA is administered through the Department of Education and doesn't maintain public-facing offices. You likely visited your local college's financial aid office, which is completely different. Please be careful about spreading misinformation that could frustrate people further.

After dealing with so many FAFSA login issues this year, I found Claimyr and it was a game-changer for getting through to FSA agents. Instead of waiting 2+ hours, they got me connected to an agent in about 10 minutes who could actually fix the account access issue. Worth checking out their video demo at https://youtu.be/TbC8dZQWYNQ and the website is claimyr.com. The agent was able to manually unlock my account and tell me exactly what was causing the login loop (turns out it was a verification flag that wasn't showing up in the system).

Does this actually work? I've been trying to get through to someone at FSA for days now. Feels like I'm never going to reach a human being there.

What are you seeing exactly when you try to log in? Is it giving you a specific error code or just refreshing? I've helped several students troubleshoot FAFSA login issues this application cycle, and based on your timeline, I'm wondering if your account got flagged for identity verification. This happens sometimes when information in your application doesn't match other government records. When this occurs, the system sometimes blocks logins until it's resolved, but doesn't clearly tell you why. This is especially common when: 1. The parent's legal name doesn't exactly match tax records 2. There's a mismatch in DOB between records 3. Your IP address keeps changing dramatically between login attempts 4. Someone made too many failed login attempts For student athletes with scholarships pending, this is definitely an urgent situation. Have you tried explicitly asking the financial aid office at your daughter's college to intervene? They often have special channels to contact FSA and can sometimes get these issues resolved faster.

No error code - it just refreshes back to the login page after I enter my username and password. I did call my daughter's financial aid office this morning and they said they'd try to help, but warned me they're dealing with hundreds of these cases right now and it might take a week to get a response from their FSA contact. A week is too long with her summer training starting soon! I'm going to try calling FSA again tomorrow morning first thing.

I'm having the exact same issue with my son's account right now! Been locked out for about 10 days. What worked for me was calling the FSA technical support line (not the main number) at 1-800-433-3243, option 7. Got through after only 20 minutes and they confirmed there was an "account verification hold" that wasn't visible to me but was blocking login. They manually removed it and I could log in immediately after. Definitely mention your daughter is a student athlete with an urgent scholarship timeline. They prioritized my son's case when I mentioned his music scholarship had a deadline.

THANK YOU for the specific number and option! I just called and although I was on hold for 45 minutes, I finally got through to someone who confirmed exactly what you said - there was a verification hold on our account. They removed it and I was able to log in right after the call ended! Now I can send the SAI to my daughter's school. You literally saved her summer housing situation!
